I have SRAM x9 2x10 on my bike and the shifting became difficult and squeeky after the first few dusty rides (bike still new). The shiftlever also have difficulty returning to the normal position after shifting, so I guess it is dirty cables.

The current cable housing only cover short sections of the cables (for RD only at the shifter and then a short piece at the RD, rest is open cable), so I wonder if upgrading to XTR or Gore cables will make a big difference as there are very little housing required with this frame's cable routing.

Any tips will be welcomed.

Will I be able to run fully housed cable on this frame and is it advisable?

Which frame?

Continuous rocks. Go to Tech Q&A and read Johan's Post on Continuous cables. ( It has been stickied)

the frame in the pic. Flash 29er.

Thanks, will look for it. Any other opinions?

Thanks.

The pic is a frozen frog.

Not sure if you can run continuous cable on a 29er. :D

Ask Johan.

Also make sure the RD loop is correct. I did a thread about installing an AVID ROLLAMJIG and another hubber pointed out that my original loop was too small. This caused a lot of poor shifting and continuous replacement of the inner cable.

The ROLLAMAJIG removes the loop altogether and shifting is a dream on my cheap OEM parts.

It sounds to me like there is a problem with your shifter. The lever's return function is not dependent on cable friction. Those levers have problematic springs. Have someone open it and take a look.

Don't open it yourself. If the spring goes boing, you're in for a long night.

It should be easy to locate the source of the squeak, that could well be the cable.
