Giba Gorge Bike-jacking(On the dirtroad leading into Giba)

I was doing a circle type ride, from hillcrest down stockville road, through westmead, along the dirt road where the highjacking occured, then riding through Giba and back out through Gaia.

Yep, some oke's do that. Seems a pretty boring route though.

Anyhow, riding that way round presents less danger, it's the uphills where you are in danger. A cyclists speed on a steep uphill is often walking pace. The walker has the advantage of balance. Fave trick for these buggers is that one lower down whistles to a mate hiding higher up. He then steps out when you pass, grabs the back wheel, and hoists upwards. Cyclist goes arse over tip into a heap of teeth and dust and the hijacker pedals off. If he can indeed pedal.

I suppose that put pay to the "secret" track into Giba along the river... We ride from Pinetown towards the Monastary and then drop into the valley below from just past the testing grounds. Awesome ride past Hospital hill and along the river to the entrance to Giba. The locals are normally very friendly with waves and smiles. We ride in a group of about 3-6 normally. Never had a problem before

There used to be a guard hidden in the bushes about halfway along that dirt road, surprised the sh*t out of a couple of times by stepping out and saying hello. Along that road you can build up a nice bit of speed going into Giba so I would say it would be hard for them to stop you going in, going out though is a different story.

i reckon you should be fine provided you keep riding in a group of 3 or more at least.

Hmmm Dude!

That ain't so secret. It's full'a dirtbikes giving it horns. I would rather take on a pedestrian or a horse thanks. I don't need KTM branded onto my scrotum.

Some free advice (for you only). If you are riding in a group, stay near the back. :D Let the frontman eat a plastic fender.

;) Used to ride dirt bikes that's how I know. The thing about that route is that the dirt bikes have right of way. You can hear them coming though. A lot more technical and fun than the smooth trails in the park.
