Wow

Rode the Epic, Barberton and many other races/routes with Monorails (UST 2.1) and NEVER had ANY issues, no punctures, nothing!! Haven't doe a major muddy race with them for obvious reasons.

My Epic buddy will tell u the same. He also tried the Crossmark at the back and loves it.

Personally i think tyre choice has a lot to do with riding style more than anything else, I for example love leaning into corners and I need maximum grip for that. The monorails washed out 7 out of 10 times with me. They picked up mud like my 4 year old playing in the garden with the hose, they slipped on pebbles and boulders and afforded me no traction whatsoever.

That said it doesnt mean it wont work for someone else with a more "elegant" riding style, The combo thats worked best for me and i have pretty much tried them all is still the race king / mnt king combo, no washouts predictable handling and i can really lean into the corners with the aggressive knobblies.

Have now got my hands on the X-kings and MNT king 2's cant wait to have them fitted next week to see how they perform, the treadpattern just looks killer :)

ditto - slide all over the place with crossmarks - looking at switching to Nevegals - they seem to have a great reputation!

i ride monorail front and back UST, they are great except on wet rocks and mud, very very slippery in wet conditions! in the dry they are very fast!

Ja, with the Monorails you do need to adopt a slightly different riding style than e.g Nevegals. With Nevegals you can simply rip into a corner with no problem, but the Monorail you do need to select a slightly "softer" line through a corner. But having said that, if you're used to that kind of riding, you won't be much slower than the burlier Nevegal.

Please review these when you've had a chance to test them out properly. I have been eyeing them too.

will do so, the reviews I've read are all very favorable, Just a word of warning, they only recently got released in the UK and i literally had to phone about 100 places before i managed to get hold of some, so they are damn tough to get a hold off. And I settled on the Race Sport version, which is apparently a tubeless ready version, basically conti's versions of TNT (Tubes no tubes).

So the X-kings weigh in at 480g and the Mountain king 2's weigh in at 500g :)

If you want a grippy tyre on the front, modify your Crossmarks by removing the round knobblies on the outside edge of the tyre. You will only have the square knobs left. It take about 30mins or so, but worth it, especially on grassy and sandy corners.

Fitted the X-king rear and the new Mountainking II today weather looks good to go for a ride tomorrow night whoop whoop. And only knocked 420 grams of the bike with the new tyres

Wow! Will be interesting to see how those tyres hold up though. Very tempting to drop the bike weight but I'd rather finish the race carrying a bit more weight than have to walk the last few km's with a sidewall cut :)

yeah can't wait to see how they hold up, and to be honest im very fond of my teeth, the sidewalls are quite sturdy by the looks of it, and the bead was designed to go tubeless. so unless i hit glass or some really gnarly sharp edges i should be OK ..... I think.
