2 months. 2 days. 3 hours.

I've made a whole bunch of changes that should make life easier and prevent the dreaded MDH. (Morzine Death Hands)

Marzo fork

Hope V2 Brakes

Renthal bars

ODI Rogue grips

I'm furiously pumping away on a hand strengthener and I'm gonna take a Kaaaaaaakload of anti inflamatories. That should do it.

Get a ticket and pull in!

The more the merrier.

I'm seriously considering...

these recent nigeria trips (another one on saturday) are proving quite lucritive in terms of "away pay". The company gives us quite a high rate per night because Nigeria is not the nicest place to be spending one's time.

So maybe I should save up that away pay, and use it to go aay to somewhere better... like Morzine :D

A word of warning. you are going late-ish in the season and the trails are well used by then. You need to be prepared. Even Pottie was commenting last year on how much of a beating his hands took. My advice. Take a lot of anti inflamatories.

Also. Make sure your bike is in 100% working order. A week's riding there is like a year of riding here. The most important parts being your brakes and your fork. Having good brakes and a fork that's working well will make your trip soo much better. Oh and put 203 rotors on front and back. I had a 180 on the rear last year and left the avid codes at home thinking that my Elixirs were more than up to the job.

Boy was I wrong.

Haha. I did 3 trips to NaaiGeria last year. You have to reward yourself with a nice Morzine trip.

Yes Sir! I plan to have the bike in tip top shape for the trip. Will do fork oil just before I go. The Codes are getting a Goodridge conversion (& obviously new fluid) in the next couple of weeks. I plan to take an extra set of pads too. 203's front & back, yes sir! I'm hoping the dirt bike riding will help with the expected arm pump. Anti-inflamatories shall now be added to the list.

I'm going to have to pre-book some additional weight :whistling:

Sweeeet.

What airline are you going on? What king of bike do you have? Full on DH or AM?

If you are going on Emirates you get 30kg plus 7kg carry on and you can carry you helmet in your hand. PM me your email address. i've got a whole checklist of things and some do's and don'ts.

I'd take at least 3 sets of brake pads. 1 on your bike and another 2 spare. you'll go through more if it's pissing. and the shops might not have spares for your bike/brake setup.

This is from an email I sent a mate who's coming with too.

The lifts for Morzine and Les Gets open on the 16th of June. Chatel also opens early June. The rest of the Portes du Soleil opens on the 29th. So we'll have 5 days of riding in Morzine & Les Gets (5 mountains. 6 ski lifts) and then on the 29th we can start hitting Chatel and the other spots. For you a good day to arrive is the 28th or 29th. That’s when the whole of the PDS opens. We are going early cos the trails do take a beating so we want to get in before they are ruined. ONLY Morzine and Les Gets might sound a little but just the Pleney main run is better than all of the riding I’ve had in SA combined. It’s 3.5km long. And FFFFAAAASSSTTT! The Les Gets main line is 4.5 km of totally safe hauling ass jumps and tables that will have you reminiscing till your next trip.

The spots.

Pleney. Right there. Loads of fun. Opens mid June.

Zorre. The other side of Morzine. Right there. Rooty. Fast. Open 29 June

Les Gets. Chavannes. The main line is 4.5km long and super fast and fun. Opens mid June.

Les Gets. Jump park. 5 tracks loads of fun. Some scary **** on the black trails. Opens mid June.

Les Gets Mont Cherie. The 2004 Worlds track. Fast and steep. Opens mid June.

Chatel. 7km of DH from top to bottom. STEEEEEEEP. Riding for all tastes. Quite bike parky. Opens mid June but getting there from Morzine before the 29th is an issue.

Morgins. Not a single braking bump. Ben Walker lives in Morgins. Enough said. Opens 29 June

Crosets. Rode the 4x track. The DH track looked sick. Open 29 June

Champery. Um. Well. You’ve seen the video’s. It’s steep. Even by Alps standards. Average gradient 40%. Open 29 June

Lindarettes. Between Morzine & Chatel. Worth spending a bit of time here. It’s uncrowded and has the most “proper” downhill in the area. Rooty, rocky. Open 29 June

The Passportes du Soleil race is on the weekend of the 29th. It’s a 70km mass start all mountain race. It’s not like the mega. It’s kind of like an endure race where you are allowed to use the lift system. The Passportes race marks the opening of the riding season. By all accounts it’s a really fun race. Some guys do it on DH bikes but you want a 160mm bike for this.

Some do’s and don’ts.

  1. Don’t go to Bar Robinson. You have been warned.
  2. Don’t do a 2 hour layover in Dubai. The shorter your layover time the bigger the chance your bike doesn’t make it onto the plane for Geneva. Bike rentals are kaaaaak expensive in Morzine.
  3. Don’t expect the bike shops to be cheap. They are VERY expensive. Especially if you are having any work done.
  4. Don’t buy brand new gloves or grips the week before you go. Your hands take a pounding so make sure you have a nicely worn in set of grips and a few pairs of gloves.
  5. Do take a good anti-inflammatory. Like I said. Your hands take a beating.
  6. Do make sure your bike is in 100% working condition. A weeks riding in the alps is 2 years riding here. I’m being serious.
  7. Do take at least 2 spare sets of brakepads. Not only are the shops expensive but they usually only carry spares for their rental bikes.
  8. Do take at least one spare derailleur hanger. See above. A spare derailleur is also a good idea.
  9. Do take a light waterproof jacket. It’s the alps. It rains 1 out of 3 days on average and it can also get *** cold. Even in summer.
  10. Do take a dropper seatpost if you have one. There is some light xc to get from Morzine to Chatel and from Morzine to Les Gets. There’s also some xc from Morgins back to Morzine depending on what route you take. You don’t NEED one but I’m taking mine.

Haha. The pain in our arms will be from smashing 15 runs a day in the Alps dude. Woop Woop.

And they've installed a brand new 6 seater lift in Chatel that we'll be riding this summer. No more shonky pre WW2 lift.
