I follow the following diet for some time ( few months) :

I have read a article where they refer to it as eating "clean"

For breakfast I normally eat plain oats with water and for lunch and dinner boiled/stir-fried veggies with lean white meat (fish .chicken) and I would add brown rice for carbs( Thursday - Saturdays) And then I eat fruit as snacks.

Low fat, NO sugar and NO wheat(bread, cake ,pasta) and Milk in my coffee, but not yoghurt of cheese or other dairy products and also no alcohol. So I don't eat refined carbs and basically 70% of my diet consists of veggies or fruit.

I do sometimes eat the odd candy(Wine gums or jelly sweets) ,but last Saturday I went to the shop for apples an for some or other reason I bought two chocolate chip muffins - but this was not home made muffins - this was those highly processed muffins with hydrogenated everything in it. The last thing I did before bed was eating those muffins

I woke up in the middle of the night with symptoms of someone that had too much to drink. Thirst, Nausea etc. And as That was the only thing I did differently that day, I believe it was those two muffins. I thought that it was as if my body was poisoned by it.

Truth?? Fact??? Superstitious?? I don't know.........but it will keep me off the chocolate muffins for a while :D

After reading the full article I would like to confirm what Mr Noakes wrote. I find my weight dropping at a steady pace (that was actually original intent), my skin's tone is better (people is actually remarking on it) and it also feels better. Also I feel better an more energetic. I don't win races yet, but that will take more that a few apples but I definitely enjoy the races or riding more

Fully agree. My fighting weight (confirmed at my annual medical) is 70kg's. I'm down to 71,5kg's from 77 in 5 months and what I've changed are:

From morning corn flakes bowl to oats with chopped pecan and raisins. Cut bread consumption radically from a roll a day to only once or twice a week. More vegetables and smaller portions for dinner. (We have a veggie garden with lots of lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, beetroot, and spinach). The mango trees are full on flowering, the bananas bunches are coming up, and our litchi tree will supplement my fruit salad, with the pawpaws.

I would reach the 70kg's easily if I cut out my 4 tspoons of sugar in my 2x daily coffee, the honey in my oats and the 2 or 3 blocks of chocolate after dinner- but then why deprive myself totally? But I also eat less rice and pasta is left to the 2 or three days before a race.

Losing weight slowly also allows your body to adjust - losing too quickly will stress your body if you're racing and cause exhaustion/fatigue and you risk burning out- similar symptoms to over training.

Now all I have to do is get to bed earlier..... g'night.

Practical confirmation of the science behind the video I posted. thumbup1.gif

Extract from the summary of the video posted, read more here

"Most shocking is Dr. Lustig's research showing that fructose sugar and ethanol from alcohol are the same. The only difference is that ethanol gets metabolized by the brain but fructose does not. According to Dr. Lustig, fructose is ethanol without the buzz. “You wouldn't think twice about not giving your kid a beer, but you don’t think twice about giving your kid a can of Coke.” And though this hepatic fructose is a chronic toxin that makes people sick after consuming repeatedly over a long period of time, the FDA will not regulate it. The bottom line is they both are the same and lead to diseases such as cancer which cause death."

I think refined anything is not great for the human body...

I try my best to do 'red bush' tea during the day (well I try), and eat healthily when possible. Eat lots of white meats and very little red meats. Lots of fresh veggies, as little frozen packet veg as possible.

Only thing is I can't say no to chocolates - at least I do the 80% Lindt choc

In my opinion its all old news, it just seeks to warn people to eat in moderation, but not deprive yourself of any foodstuff.

The human body has adapted to eating a variety of differant foods over centuries and can cope with almost anything in moderation, eating four jam pastries for breakfast will make you fat, eating one muffin wont.

When I was training seriously for Comrades many years ago I went to all these health conventions and seminars, some even by Tim Noakes, the overriding thread was everything in moderation, weekend warriors tend to think by depriving themselves of a muffin here and a cool drink there, they will somehow get faster or fitter when in fact it can and often does have the opposite effect.

Low indexes will inhibit any training and cravings that cannot be withstood for lengthy periods will play on your mind, eventually you will give in and you will overload. Its been proven millions of times by millions of failed dieters, because its simply not possible to withstand a craving indefinitely.

It may or may not come as a surprise to know that guys like Bruce (for example) at the peak of his professional career would eat a chocolate, drink a beer, enjoy a trammazini, have a glass of wine ...but whatever he ate or drank was in moderation, and I think Tim Noakes will be the first to tell you the same.

Yes LIMIT certain foodstuffs, Yes eat your 5 fruits and vegetables daily, Yes eat clean, but don't become one of those miseries who thinks by eating a mushroom and two sticks of celery at his wife's birthday bash when everyone is enjoying themselves he is been impressive and healthy.
