Avoid running around like a headless chicken ,remember where you rack your bike.

When you get into the water and it feels as if you've never done any swimming in your life, that's normal.

No matter what happens on the swim - just keep swimming - dont stop!!

Eat on the bike and take it a little easier than you think you should - leave some tiger in the tank for the run. Slow down a little on the last 1 km.

Start the run a little slower that you plan to run and use shorter strides - after 800m - 1km get onto your natural tempo & stride.

Smile & have fun.

Enjoy. See you there.

Its going to be my first triathlon.

Any tips ?

Make a list of everything that needs to go with to the race and pack well in advance. You'll be surprized with the nerves what you forget to pack...like your bike!

How save is it to leave your stuff with the bike, sunglasses, shoes etc?

I don't want to get back and I don't have shoes to run with...

They wont steal your shoes.

I hide my glasses in my shoes as I think it is the only real thing people would steal.

Warning: This sport is addictive. You start out with an innocent BSG. You end up dedicating your life to Iron Man. No matter your athletic abillity...Be warned.. The bike at Roodeplaat is easy and fairly flat. Little hill about 17km. Also the route is less than 20 km. About 19,2km. Should be one of your best times in a BSG. Vanderbyl is the only one that is easier. Wish i could join you guys on Sunday.

+1. I'm the perfect case study!

Do not drink or eat anything in or within 500m of transition. That is a no eat/drink zone. I made this mistake in my first few races.. Cramps and heartburn and all sorts of crap. Maybe consider walking out of T2 when you get off the bike :) Oh and cheat I mean draft as much as possible on the bike!! Also it's Roodeplaat, so will be busy.. run fast else you might not get water (hopefully that doesn't happen again).
