Is their a guide on how to get rid of your opposition during the swim?

Normally I try and kick the guy in the balls and if that doesnt work then the good old backhand roundhouse-goggle-punch does the job.

I was just curious if there are any other techniques which maybe more painfull/effective?

So I finished it in 1 hour 16 , which i thought was not bad for the first time!

My running sucked tho!

Still cant understand why they start the men at the back and we have to swim through every one!

But what a great cardio workout!

I have entered for this Sundays one at The Islands Estate.

Also wanted to do it, but didn't feel comfortable with the swim.

I have recently also been working on a new move called the creepy-crawly-punch (or underwater tombstone as some others might call it). You basically dive down to the bottom of the lake, spot the target and then launch upwards with your feet so that you hit him on his stomach with your head. This move however only works in shallow water.

Haven't you learned by now? Just do backstroke. It's the most destructive way to block an oncoming swimmer. If that's too hard, do breaststroke. Kicking up and down is not an option, that makes it too easy for other swimmers to pass. If you are going around a buoy, do not go wide and make sure you do said backstroke or breastsroke taking up as much space as possible.

Swim: start on the outer edge of the swim or you will get kicked, nake a note of where u have put your bike in transition so when u come out the water you dont run around like a lost soul looking for it, never start to hard or you will blow.

Bike: hop on and enjoy if you can get into a pack and draft use it to your advantage

Run: again remember where you put your bike so you can rack it back and get your shoes on for the run and agin just enjoy

In general get out and enjoy it, you WILL be hooked and back for more torture maybe even signed up for the half in Jan :)

Your stuff ie glasses shoes etc will be safe in transition just remember where you put them so u dont think someone has stolen them... see you out there.

Normally I use the buyo to launch an ambush on some of the first time participants. It is not the easiest move but you hide behind the buoy on the other side and then swing around with your to feet to kick the newbies in the face. I once even managed to crack a guys goggles (awesome huh!!). I call that move the "coat hanger".

Oh and if none of the above works then there is a few moves you can try in transition as well namely:-

-- The Mongolian Chop

-- Go To Sleep

-- The Testicular Claw

or my personal favourite

-- The Tiger Feint Kick

I will not explain them here but look out for me in transition as I will be performing some of them.

Garfield, sounds like you starting WWT. What kit do you wear, so I can be on the other side. :)

The run did seem shorter, swim was apparently a few meters shorter too.

Yep, looking at the times I think both was shorter. Obviously they also included boith transition times in the cycling time so that seems longer (and the course was a bit longer).

I got smacked real good in the swim on Sunday!

Then DON'T look at the route profile for the CT Challenge Marathon (or just walk the first 6km)

Thats different Gripen. At least in Cape Town we have a nice 180km bike race to get our legs warmed up!! And all that after strecthing a few muscles in Granger bay earlier in the morning.....

I see that they have the Buffelspoort event up for the 30th of September 2012 but we cannot enter yet? No info to the race etc. etc.

Anybody have some inside info?
