I reckon 2011 onwards XTR if you have sufficient cash to keep the bike in XTR chains, cassettes, chainrings and BBs.

If you want a gruppo thats almost as nice and way cheaper then 2012 XT. Maintenance will be much more affordable.

Listen to Eldron for he is wise and knows that one must not purchase expensive parts if one cannot maintain them :D

I have learnt this expensive lesson myself, so take heed

Word! I'm running XT drive train and XTR brakes - best of both worlds!

The "new" XTR brakes really are that good - I made a marshall dive for cover at my last race using the patented Eldron late braking slightly out of control method.

XTR for me is designed as performance over price/durability. Great if you're a pro or like dropping wads of cash on your bike. Me - I'm neither :D

You see my issue is that while I was working I had cash to blow so upgraded to XTR which was and still is fine and dandy, but in the near future chainrings will need replacing and then I will be on bread and water for a while :P

I could afford it then but did not think long term
