Which Rims - MTB Disc

It appears that I need new rims (Hubs are fine) as my rear DT Swiss 4.2XC is toast and it's only 6 months old. Shocked Cry

Took my wheels into my lbs yesterday to have them re-tensioned prior to Sabie and although the front was a cinch and was finished in roughly 7 minutes, they couldn't re-tension the rear wheel properly due to a couple of small dings and just to get the rim to run true, half the spokes are extremely loose.

It appears that because the rims are extremely lightweight, the spokes are unable to tension the rim "true". I just hope it lasts for Sabie before it disintegrates.

I'm not too worried about the weight weenie thing (I was initially and look where that got me Ouch), just need a rim that's going to last. So what disc rim would you suggest ?

Hubs to be fitted are DT 240s

Sorry to hear that mate! Also had a 'small' rear wheel issue yesterday, found 1 loose spoke. Turns out the nipple is damaged.

But cause it's tubeless it's a mission, tyre off, rim tape off and then  oh the lbs doesn't have that 'sticky tape stuff' in stock! OK OK calm down, make a small 'incision' in the tape and replace nipple/spoke, cover with small piece of insulation tape just in case.

But my lbs (Just Cycles BTW Wink) guy hangs in there till 6:30 (they close at 5:30!) and even services the freewheel and hub in the process but phones and says hey I can't get the tubeless up. OK only cause I wanted it back last night I say bring it I'll do it myself!!!

When he drops it he says and just generally you will need to rebuild that wheel cause other spokes are not looking good at the nipples either, flip could be me and you with sleepless nights Thug! Pleasant thought just before Sabie as you say.

Getting the tubleless back up wasn't that tough so ja ready to go!

Tridude, yes, have seen them but want to stick with the XC rims as opposed to freeride/downhill.

BB, you taking any spare rear wheels to Sabie Wink

I also looked around and came to the conclusion the Mavic will be best. I think it was the XM 819 Disc.

Yes I am Big%20smile

Will take the S-works with so can use spares from there if really necessary! Call if you need help!

In fact I'll take another extra back wheel just in case so you're covered either way!

DRC MTB rims has been recommended to me by a couple of different LBS. Is any one riding the DH18 or MT17?

DH18 looks promising. it is about the same weight as a DT Swiss 455 but cost around R260. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Thug, had exactly the same problem my DT Swiss 4.2XC rims are also toast. My lbs re-tensioned them, but they literaly lasted a day before totally breaking. I've rebuilt the wheel with the DRC DH18 rim using the old hub. Minimal weight difference and so far so good. However it did give me an excuse to purchase a new set of XTR rims for racing. Absolutely loving them.

How long did you have your 4.2's for ?

How long have you used the DRC's and what sort of riding do you do ?
