There are a number of posts and polls on this, do a search on "26 vs 29" in search box at the top.

Hi if you're still new to mountain biking then just ride what you currently have and try to learn as much as possible from your current bike.

Only when you start to feel that you are comfortable on your bike and have good reasons for why you want to upgrade certain components on the bike, then get the upgrades. Best to ride with experienced fast riders and learn from them to get a feel for this.

I was in the same position not so long ago. I had always been a roadie and wanted to get into mountain biking as well so I looked into the same 29er vs 26er debate (which is very heated) and ended up going with a 26er. I road both and found each wheel size has its own advantages and disadvantages, it depends on the race or riding you doing, but the 26er was more versatile. I think many guys have come to the conclusion that having two bikes is best and I'm sure the bike manufacturers push this idea as well. I still see the pros on TV riding both and they make both go fast so don't worry to much about which bike you end up going with. 95 perecnt comes down to the rider and his/her ability.

Enjoy the riding! Getting a mountain bike was one of the best things iv ever done :)
