I have Carbones.

Not tubular like the Ultimates.

Should I go tubular, I hear rave reviews about the new Firecrest design in the Zipp wheels.

I would consider Zipp.

Just remember if a spoke breaks you are buggered and i have seen a few with broken rear spokes. They can be fixed by the factory but costs a fortune.

They are very stiff and get up to speed fast.

That is why we love insurance ;)

How much do the Mavics go for? I see Buycycle has some 303 Firecrest clinchers for R16k

They also have some good specials on 404 carbon clinchers.<

Aerodynamically, I believe the Zipps are better wheels than the Mavics.

Here's some aero data from the Zipp site. Their data tends to correlate with the data from independent tests, so I'd consider it reliable. The vertical scale is grams of drag. The Mavics have significantly more drag than the 303s (x45 FC) at all yaw angles. The 404s, have even lower drag than the 303s, until 15° of yaw (crosswind)

A decrease of 10g in drag is about a 1.5W saving in power
