Hi all,

I'm from pretoria and have been searching everywhere for an old frame to build myself a fixie. If anyone can help in any way that would be great!!

Try Emile from startling hero bicycling company....

I got my frame from him. But you might have to wait awhile as he looks for one.. But he has all the right contacts.

Thanx, have you maybe got contact details?

Road bike or Mtb bike, old school or more of a new school,

Reason I ask road bikes work mostly in metric, old school always, You could always find a bike calculator on the world wide web , take a few measurements and find an rough sizing

Related question - why go through the trouble of converting an old road or mountain bike? Why not take a track bike? The only thing you have to do is add the front brake.

I'm also thinking of building a fixie, but the best is the olden bikes with the horizontal dropouts, but then it's quite a hassle to convert everything, hence my first question above.

I guess it depends on what you want, i like the old school retro style fixies, and love the search for the parts and building it..

I am looking for a track frame, just an older one. Another thing, i don't have butloads of cash to spend on it.

So do a bit of reading and determine what YOU like, then build, buy or whatever..goodluck.

Retro track frame not impossible to find. Don't need bucket loads of cash , on my second one. First was a 56cm 1968 dhc with campy groupo . Very rewarding to build but how ever I am 6'4" so just a wee bit to small. Managed to get a viner frame frome Emile. Which is more my size at 61cm which I need to build up. But alas I have been spending my bike build money getting another bike built for the misses brother. And then further mods to some of ther other bikes.

I would try my hardest to get a track frame than a steel road frame. For the fixie project if I was you. Then try to make it your own, ie paint job, or stickers etc.A good website to check ideas, and if you can find them mine and divernicks bikes isFixed gear gallery. But be warned there are over 13000 bikes on the site. I have seen some brilliant looking bikes, on there, some completed with comic book characters ,

Good luck with the bike hunt and good building and maybe one day we'll organise a bike messier styled race for our fixes. In the style of Lucas brunells videos.. Could be fun..
