Would like to know what singlespeed gear ratio is recommended for the XTerra Grabouw? Anyone with familiarity of both the trail and singlespeed MTB gearing?

you have balls... of steel.. wondering how this legs will feel on the run

It's only a 10km run, how hard can it be?

Maybe I really under estimate the difficulty of the course (it's happened before). Let's assume I am fit enough to do a tough-ish 42km run, and a tough-ish 100km+ MTB cycle, and that I have done similar events in the past. In that context, is the XTerra course so hard that I shouldn't consider doing it SS? If the answer is yes, then I'll reconsider, I don't mind doing it with gears. It must be one helluva course then.

Actually, my bigger concern was not going SS, but the rigid fork (if it is rocky). But now you guys have me double guessing wink.gif

Don't stress you will be fine on the SS. As usual just pick the gears for the hills. even if you have gears your legs will be tired for the run. Anyway I have seen people ss rigid the epic. That's got to be tough.

NOT saying you cannot do it.. just RESPECT.. the concern is more the combination of a brick run... on trail after a mtb effort on SS. just do some brick sessions ie.. bike run bike run off the single speed steed

Easily do-able on a SS. there is only one section that a fork is needed and normally people are pushing so learn to track stand if you want to stay on bike.

The transition from bike to run is something i need to start practicing for...as soon as I learn to swim in a washing machine.

Yeah, I that is pretty much the plan. As long as I can get over the hill(s) I should be good.

SS rigid Epic. Wow. That is respect!

Fortunately I have done many of those (bricks) in my relatively short life thus far thumbup1.gif
