Well Cath @ 148cm & 50kg's, it's gonna be hard for anyone to catch you on a rd bike.....therein lies your advantage, and not yo mention as a MTbiker you are familiar with pain and climbs! Whatever bike you get, you will be off to a good start!

Enjoy the rd, but never give up the mtn. :D

Except in the wind, be careful not to get any deep section wheels, for someone so light they'll be much more of a nuisance than any good if a crosswind happens to come about.

oh yes! something else!

You have a helmet from mtb, so just ask Tankman if it is acceptable on the road

But then you probably also want to get some road shoes and cleats, they offer a much bigger platform than the mtb pedals which = a better power transfer and over 180km it will take a fair amount of time off.

Aero helmets are also cool, if you're doing ironman's. :D

Unless you're a gadget / fashion geek, don't listen to all the BS of new helmets, shoes etc.

I've been in the same position as you are. I bought a R4500 road bike 4 years ago (Raleigh RC3000 - tiagra components) with MTB pedals and MTB helmet and have completed a long list of 70.3, Ironman, sub 3h 94.7's, triathlons, Argus' etc. with that bike. Oh yes, you don't need tri-bars, new seat post or an aero helmet for IM. Still using the same chain, same cassette, same brake pads and with a little bit of chain suck the bike is still going 100%.

It's not about the bike...

Enjoy, just beware of the cars while training, that's the shitty part.

Agreed rudi-h you dont need all the fancy bells and whistles. I completed IM on a Trek T1000 which weighed about the same as me and only upgraded at a later stage when i knew the sport for for me long term.

good luck

There's a Small Merida here on thehub for R7500 with full Ultegra.
