  1. Havent posted in a while but finally reassembled the bike after the move (and winter). Kudos to Bogus on the spray job. Frame I bought back in SA about 18months ago from AliB, groupset from CRC, bars off the hub, swapped the wheels for my old mtb frame and already had the seat.
  2. I have had bicycles insured through my broker for years (MF). Hairline crack on the seat post (2nd hand bike) the paid me out the value for new frame based on a picture and letter from bikeshop saying that the integrity of the frame could not be guaranteed if repaired. ca. R20k
  3. Formally employed with 4-8 years exp about 4 to 5
  4. I never suggested people on the hub earn R200k although I'm sure there are some and I'm acutely aware of how nett salary works I was illustrating the point that the bike is about two months nett salary here (Switzerland), so while still expensive it would be no different from someone in SA buying a R50k bike based on a R25k nett salary, which is quite common. My other point was that the bicycle is still more expensive than buying a new 600cc motorcycle, which I also find ridiculous. Whether two months, or 4 months salary is worth a bicycle I don't know but for me (mid pack at best) it isn't. Some other random comparisons that bike would only cost 1300 pints, if converted. http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Switzerland&country2=South+Africa&city1=Zurich&city2=Johannesburg But I still think you should ask for the raise
  5. That bike here costs 13'376 CHF - R190k excluding shipping and import duties etc http://www.bellatisport.com/shop/shopping/product_details.php?id=2699 Which is about 2 months nett salary for the average person but still disproportionate. You can get a new Yamaha F6 for about 9-10k CHF.

    Cricket......

Wow! This would be huge - another Hansie There seems to be little credibility in sport these days
  7. These are mostly commuter bikes left, unlocked mostly at train stations surely. Secondly I think many more people use bicycles there than here so not quite apples and apples. Quite different from being bike jacked for bike more valuable that many small 2nd cars.

Good to see the team performing either way. Hopefully the environment at the game with put them in good stead for the upcoming games

Disgusting. Did you hear the commentator have a go at the police, who were just chilling watching the game.
  10. Afrikaans is my 2nd language and whilst I got most if it was pretty incoherent. I also don't live in SA anymore. Please tell me about your extensive experience with other minority languages in SA. Pedi perhaps? Topic seemed quite serious and wanted to make sure I understood what he was trying to convey
  11. Säntis Mt. in the background - start of the Appenzil region of the Alps
  12. The real trick would be sending your wife out for groceries and her coming back with a bike for you! Enjoy NZ!
  13. Im sure this thread will be studied at university "Social Media Marketing 101: How not to do it"
  14. It is beyond obvious you are a friend of the shop/zilla ...... One doesn't need to be a Vat consultant to get to the crux of the issue. EBS should not have told the OP he would get tax back if they did not know this as a fact. On presentation to SARS at airport he was informed it was not the correct documentation Documentation send from EBS to SARS was falsified (knowingly) EBS threatens OP privately and on an open forum How EBS file taxes, their turnover, Zilla reputation (previously), OP paying Vat, his country of origin, size and colour of the bike matter not. It is strange how in other threads people are quick to praise people for brining this type of things to light and yet here some people are defending it .... ps if you find this boring I suggest you spend your time/energy elsewhere. I always find it fascinating the type of people who take the time to comment on how lame, boring, waste of time and stupid things are? There must be a word for that ...
  15. Yeah and Lance never doped. Im sorry using a Vat number from another persons business and then writing down the last digit incorrectly because you were busy? Sending it to the airport knowing he wouldn't get his claim with it? Cmon man. His emails quite clearly state he advised the OP he would get his tax back. If he was not in a position to offer financial/tax advice he shouldn't have done so, as a business if you make a mistake you correct it not pass it onto the consumer? The vat back was crucial to the OP decisions to buy the bike from EBS It is worth saying I have used EBS before and their service was ok. So I have no personal issue with them
  16. I think Zilla is digging his own grave on this one. Why would a foreigner take all this time and effort if he did not have a leg to stand on? He has posted quite damming emails and correspondence which has not being denied by Zilla. Zilla has also threatened the OP over email and now on the open forum in a very childish tit for tat way. "I won't send you the invoice ....because xyz" Why are you trying to threaten and bully? Sorry Zilla but you are not covering yourself in glory on this one. It is very obvious to the neutral that the people who are defending you/harping on about the OP home vat ect. have some history with you. This reminds me of the Cajees employee's rant here sometime back except this time its the owner .... the amount of business/face you are potentially losing far out weights the value of the vat.
