The climb in the final third of the race (the one for which we had to conserve some strength) really took the fun out of the fun ride for me. Most of the people who were pushing their bikes with me complained that the ascent was too steep for the typical fun rider. I couldn't finish (due to too much sun, severe exhaustion and the fact that my water, etc. had run out) (and my fitness probably also played a role), but I felt that the route was too challenging and that the race organisers may have to re-contemplate whether to include that hill in next year's race.

For the rest of it, I felt that the race was brilliant, and the organisation done very well.

I have not ridden many races, but this one was a killer. I have never felt more exhausted with any type of exercise I have attempted before. The views were spectacular in some sections. The "surprise" was a little unexpected and I was also not quite prepared for the extra distance. I survived it, made the cut, got the medal, but I will make sure that I am better prepared for next year's race.

I just hope it's the same next year...

Some perspective: Be glad you got to ride! I was man-down from early Sat afternoon with a stomach bug, only starting to feel semi-human today - and things are still not as it should be.

I would've loved to rather suffer with you all.
