Wait for the new Pyga 29er, from Pat Morewood. It's just won a shootout against all the big brand 29ers. Check out "Bicycling" magazine from March. Also nice to have a cult bike that's not mainstream and made in SA.

I spent all of March riding the Silverback Storm carbon. It's seriously one of the best bikes I've ridden. I've had the odd ride on other 29ers, but this is the first time I've had the opportunity to really spend quality time on one. On the first ride after bombing down Canary in Jonkershoek my mate actually looked at me and said he thought I might actually be faster on it than on my normal bike. It did take about an hour to learn to ride it and adjust my style, because it does require a bit more body english to turn. Still, it is one seriously good bike and for the money it's a steal. 25k with full XT, a Sid fork and full Stans Crest wheels.

I've always said that I really like 29ers, but they're just not my thing. I still think my ideal bike is a 5inch travel trail bike, but now I actually want a carbon HT as well. I'd actually like to throw a leg over some of the other carbon bikes out there to be able to compare because this thing seriously blew me away.

Silverback Storm 1 is a carbon 29er with full XT groupset, Rock Shox Sid RL and ZTR Crest rims and hubs. Also SLK carbon seatpost, stem and handlebar. According to the review in March edition of Tread magazine in retails for R 24999. I would say thats a good buy as well adding to MintSauce's post.

Today I rode Pat Morewoods PYGA. I can honestly say I was blown away by both these bikes. Did a couple laps on the World Cup course at Cascades, on the hard tail and the dual. Both were awesome, but WOW, the dual is something else. It climbs well, cruises through the switchback climbs and descends like a rocket. All in all, simply brilliant.

I don't want to ride my 26" now for the next 8 weeks while I wait for my new ONETEN PYGA. :)
