Where abouts in Jbg Gauteng are you? I have a GIS system at work that has contour data available for most of the country.

Can't help on what the altitude is, but to set the altitude on the watch...

Options --> Start --> Function Set --> Altitude On --> OK --> and then key in the altitude figure --> OK ---- DONE !

The only way to set it will be at a Trig Beacon or with the help of a GPS, however the Polar uses barometric pressure to detemine the altitude, which 75% of the time will always be inaccurate given the hourly changes in temperature & pressure.

I know the watch isn't going to be 100% accurate, just want to make sure it's almost there

What about using google earth?

Eish, I'm not from your neck of the woods so it makes it hard to find specific areas. The contour intervals are 20m so it's very easy to get this wrong without knowing your co-ordinates but you can work with these:

Kempton Park = 1600m
Sandton = 1540m
Fourways = 1460m

Thanks Buff

If I gave you co-ordinates from google earth, could you check them against what you've got?

Try 26 14'13" S 28 00'15" E ?

Jason - At the main set of robots at Grand Central the height is 1600m.

At the entrance to Kyalami it's 1440m.

Comparing to Google Earth - Grand central robots are at 1597m and Kyalami (I assume you mean the race track) is 1463m

Yip, its pretty close to crown mines, and G.E puts it at 1711m  - pretty good, I'd say.
