Hey all, hope you all ready to party the night away into the new year and wake up bright and early to start the new year off with a ride along the coast.

One question though, why does it sometimes feel like my back wheel has a puncture when it's fine.  Is it just that some of the roads around Cape Town are that bad???

Hate to break this to you bud... but its probably due to too much Christmas Cake...

naa, don't think so, I ride with heavier guys and they say i'm imagining things.

Have your spokes checked.  You can do it yourself.  I had a similar problem and in the end it was a loose spoke.  The feeling is quite similar to what a "buckled" wheel would feel.

Hi Double Z

I get that "is it a flat?" feeling & mostly it's down to the road surface.

Had 2 slowish flats on the back wheel last week and noticed that along with the vibration, there's a periodic bump as the valve touches the ground - this distinguishes a flat from the road surface thing.

Also, if you turn sharply when you get the flat feeling and fall off - then it's probably a flat (unless your turning skills are rubbish, in which case it's best to stop and feel the tyre).

Looking between your legs to see if the tyre is flat will attract unwelcome attention from your friends who will doubtless misinterperet your intentions.

Asking a friend to look at your rear tyre is safer but may introduce a level of intimacy to your relationship that neither of you really wants.

Hope this helps and, as always, there's no charge for the sparkling advice.

Damn you guys ride your wheels to the rims if you can feel the valve touching the ground.

I've found that when you puncture and still have like 5 bar left the tyre seems to absorb some road surface vibration similar to that of carbon seat stays.  Or is this just accoustics...
