We also had a puncture on our tandem (at the end of Blue Route). Changed the tube and completed the ride without any further incidents. When I de-sembled the bike afterwards I realized that we popped 2 spokes on the rear wheel. Checked the tube and the hole corresponds with one of the popped spokes on the inside of the tube. I'll be taking the wheel for a full re-build with one of the best wheel builders in the Western Cape next week. Lets hope he has time to work on it before he tackles the Epic.

It sounds to me you still haven't done a post-mortem on the tubes like some sensible individual suggested. Find the cause of those punctures before hoping new wheels will sort it out.

i have checked the tubes, over and over, the puncture is in a different place every time, i check the tire where the corresponding hole in the tube is and there is no thorn or anything continual. out of the last 6 punctures in the last two rides, two have been on the side, and 4 have been on the inside of the tube against the rim... all in different places though.

so there is something up :) i will strip the wheels and clean them, re tape and see what happens. actually, i might just go for w full wheel rebuild, including hub service as there is a crunching noise coming from the rear wheel somewhere... on the argus we cold go much quicker that 45km/h... noise started about 200m before the top of Chapmans... we "limped" to the finish!

Hmmmmm. Bring them over and let me have a look. Preferably with the same tyres and tube that you find give you so many punctures. I don't like the paranormal, we have to turn this back to normal.

Sterkte JB...... Hierdie ou is hardkoppig en het weird idees.

Why is that?? i have taken my bike to two well know places and BOTH could not sort the issue....?? i still get punctures on the inside of the tube...?? i was told to just forget slime and tubeless wheels on a road bike and i just wanted to know why? am i "hardkoppig en het weird idees" because i questioned you? Eccentric1, i have allot of respect for you and your Knowledge is way superior to mine and you have given me very helpful advise, which i have followed myself and had bike shops/professionals check out but still i get flats?? after i have done everything i was told to do?? Now i am trying to get to the bottom of my issues again and i get labeled "hardkoppig en het weird idees" ??

anyway... i will keep asking stupid questions and i will eventually sort the issue out. but thank you for all your help thus far on this thread and all the other threads! its been great and has helped me out allot! :)

Remove the tyres, remove the rim tape. Check the rim tape for holes caused by a spoke that stands proud. Check the rim and find the offening spoke(s).

I always have two rim tapes in my road Tandem wheels.

Have you got disks yet?

i took the rim tape off on Thursday, all seems fine with rim tape, tried to check for holes and loose spokes. wheels are back together again..... i put new tubes in so lets see what happens this week. what gets me is that the hole in the tube is never in the same place...??? maybe it just IS bad luck....

i have got the calipers and rotors now, avid BB7's. still trying to find (read affordable) a Tandem rated disc compatible Fork. Need a new front disc compatible hub, the adapter on the rear hub to hold the rotor or a new rear hub. so as you can see im trying- but these parts are not cheap and i would like to buy decent components and not just- "that-will-do" kind goodies...

that is why im also considering a new disc rated tandem wheel set. but these are also very expensive!

So much i want to do but budget is not allowing be to... :)
