  1. Thanks All, we settled on a 24" and it fits peefect for now! Will probably move to a 26" mid next year 👍🙏
  2. He is definitely too big for his 20" seat post in only in about 1.5" and he about 20cm over the stand over point! So he definitely needs a bigger bike! But how much bigger! Im not worried about saving money ie, buying once and thats it! We need the right fit! He's got strong and I mean strong legs ðŸ˜Ū, but is very skinny! So upper body is not as strong! We ride technical mountain paths and cattle tracks, as well as long open sand roads! So, the 24" wheels for technical tracks and 26" for the long open rides... Do they make a 25" wheel? ðŸĪŠðŸĪŠðŸĪŠ
  3. Yeah, 12k is out of our budget, but looks nice! The 24 Drone i think will be the bike, its speced similar to what he has now. As he grows, we will get better bikes. I may change a few components here and there though.
  4. Thank you Barry. Will do some searching
  5. That bike is discontinued. But thanks
  6. Hi Iwan, I live in Kzn, in the Drakensberg. So sadly we cannot take you up on the offer. Closest bike shop is around 1:30h from us! I agree, to big to quick is not correct and I really dont mind buying him 15 bikes if he needs them! I know a standard XS 26 is too big, so that leave 3 options, the 24" drone the 26JR drone or trying to find a 24 9R. My understanding is that the 26JR frome fits between the 24 and standard 26XS? Is this correct? Then its just if the 26" wheels would benefit him at this age? I think being able to maneuver the bike and climb better would be more advantages over the benefits of the 26" wheel! So I think the 24" Drone is the better option!
  7. Thanks Guys, i live in the mountains, and access to these bikes to test is not possible! My measurements were incorrect, hes 137cm and has an inseam of 65cm. Still leaning toward the 24, but the 24 9r may be the right bike, reach wise!
  8. Thanks ChrisF He can reach the bars on his brothers Avalanche XS 26 and can pedal a straight line and upnhill ish, but he battles to turn and control the bike in very tight spits. Futher research has indicated that the drone 26jnr actually has a smaller frame than an XS 26! So it fits between the 24 9r and the standard XS 26! Im just worried that the 26 wheels will be too big and his confidence takes a knock! but where we ride, the 26 wheel will give him an edge over rough sruff, but climbing he will be better off on the 24! 🙆‍♂ïļðŸ™†â€â™‚ïļðŸ™†â€â™‚ïļ Its also an expensive mistake to make!
  9. Hi All, My son ( a hooligan) on his bike has out grown is 20" Titan Hades SE. So we are looking for a new bike for him. He is 137cm tall, skinny but strong! His inseam is 60cm. We are looking at these options- Titan Drone 26" jnr Titan Drone 24" Titan 24 9R (discontinued but they are around) His current bike is a racing 20" with air shock and hydraulic brakes with 11-46 and 32 front ring! According to the internet, His specs put him on the high end of a 24" and low end of the 26jn specific bike. His old brother has an XS Avalanche Luna pro and this bike is too big for the younger Son! He can get it going, but loses it on turning. Then enter the Titan 24 9r, a 24" frame with 26" wheels! Im confused what would be the correct size. Im hesitant to go with coil shock and cable brakes as he currently has air and hydraulic. It made a huge difference coming from his 16" so we'd like to stay with the better components. Will the smaller frame and bigger wheels keep his confidence or go with the 26"jnr or just go with the 24"? I hear the argument about him out growing the 24, but id rather buy another bike in 15 months than him losing his confidence and current skill! We live in the bush, so tricky to just go to a bike shop and test! Im leaning toward the 24, but is there somthing i should be considering? Are there any other high end 24 bikes in SA that compete with the Titan? Thanks all, appreciate it!
  10. Thanks, I'll check it out. If I must buy a new crankset to fit the bigger ring then I will, I just don't really wanna go 1x becuase then I'll have a massive ring front and back and it will cancel out. Don't wantnto go much bigger than a 38 on the rear. So if I have say 32 and 2nd ring, then I may work ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ
  11. Hi all, I have an anthem (2013 model) with 2x10 crank I think is a 40/32 and rear im not sure. What i would like to do is put a new crankset in that has a 44 big ring and around a 36 2nd ring. Is this possible and would I need to change the cassette? (I actually need new crank, cassette and hub as when I stand to pedal i have a serious grating noise and feels like my chain is slipping) The reason is, I am spinning out on downhill and flats! Where i have the most fun! Climbing has always been a weakness and not too worried about that though. I've accepted it! But I wanna MAKE the wind on the down hills 🙏👍😎 Any suggestions? 🙏
  12. Hey all. After like 12 years I'm getting back into cycling with my family Who is the best bicycle insurance guys out there? Is there a specific bicycle product? Thanks.
  13. Where can i get one of these? regards
  14. I had a 26er anthem 18. then bought a DS Anthem 29er medium (18). Sold it and got an HT XTC 29er Large (20) The XTC is a MUCH better fit.... i have a more "racy" fit and my lower back pain is gone. not sure if the HT has anything to do with it but i feel MUCH more comfy and have allot more control over the Medium Anthem. me 2c worth
  15. +1 ???
  16. i have about 15kg of lard i can shed.... i've always been heavy, in matric i was no where near fat , 9% body fat and still weighed 102kgs!!! so even at my "best" i was over the 100kg's! just destined to be heavy i guess... but i will check out for a 2nd hand- my only issue with that is that if something does brake i have no warranty... and no "advice before i buy" most private sellers will say it will hole me and the a face plant! and no comebacks. at least with a new bike i bet the back up of the manufacture.....??
  17. So... i did the 94.7 on my mountain Bike and right there i decided that i NEED a road bike for these events.... but i have never ridden a road bike (besides our tandem). I'm 6'1- fat (115kg's) and not very fit.... (4 hour 94.7 on MTB) What would be the best road bike for me to ride long rides with- i will never win any races and wont try- but just want to try ride as best i can. i have a budget of about 10-12K thanks chaps! much appreciated! regards.
  18. I did the 55km for the 2nd and last time.... will not be back at the 94.7 again! who ever made this course and included that rocky decent for a "family" ride was just either stupid or thought it would be funny! i was lucky i got there before the bottleneck and rode it. how was that drop off at the bottom?!! that was a very tricky, rocky and loose section.... in a way its good people walked it because if some people rode it they would have come short on those sharp Pellendaba rocks!!
  19. Thanks Dude. glad it worked out for you!
  20. Hmmmmmm..... all this hope talk is making me itch.....
  21. Well yeah, i am a big chap and i do go fast when i can... so do need all the help i can get..... ill give it a few more km's and see....
  22. think ill just stay with the XT's then... if i dont come right with what is on now, i will change out ot the bigger rotors and have the breaks serviced and that'll do it im sure! ??
  23. What is a Fair price for a set of XT's that has done 40km? how does HOPE compare?
  24. I used to have a VT and had 203 front and 180 rear. since then i have not had a bike that could stop like that. i am VERY slow up hill but when i do get going i need some braking power to stop my 115kg's. these are the first Shimano Brakes i have had and so far not that impressed... but will give them a fair chance.
  25. So after a 40km ride they seem to be stopping properly. but will change up to 203 front and 180 rear. that'll stop me!
