R300 for 6 hours of entertainment including lots of refreshments (if you fast, do it twice), a great endorphin rush, hours of dinner time conversation and water cooler chat at work. You get one up over motorists for the day. You may even make a few new friends while training or during the race.

You get to grimace a little and smile a lot.

Compare the cost to getting a hair cut, what you spend on a round of drinks, a night at the movies, getting your car valeted, a new tyre, a round of golf, the monthly insurance premium on your bike, a plumbers call out fee and a dozen others which we just pay without questioning.

If you really cannot afford R300, then it is a lot, but if you can, enter, pay the money and enjoy the experience and be thankful that you can.

A regular race is R180 with no road closures, so R300 for full road closure isn't too bad and when else are you going to ride through down town Jozi on a bicycle..

Don't think its too bad. Shutting the M1 and the N14 for the better part of a day can't come cheap.

I see the route has some tweaks AGAIN!!! :cursing:

I believe the organisers gave 4,5 million Rand to charity last year.

Very good of them!

However, as Pensioners, we need to be at the side that accepts, not on the side who should give?

I wish to write Greg Till, CSA, Momentum 94.7 and all the other organisers a letter and ask for Pensioner's Discount.

I mean, we can't win anymore, we can't compete with the front runners, BUT, we still enjoy our racing, we still keep healthy, etc? Why can I go eat cheaper at Spur/Wimpy, buy with discount at Game, go to the movies with discounted tickets but I cannot get a Pensioner's discount from the Cycle Racing organisers? The sport I love?

PLEASE??? This way we will all score - better visibility of people "doing something for the elderly", more riders, more people who can compete, more healthy oldies etc etc etc?

I stand to be corrected, but the 4.5 million was raised by charities using the 94.7 as a platform - they did not give a way the 94.7 I am proud to be part of the Cows who raised just over 3 million of that 4.5 million
