I am still looking for a commuting buddy to ride with from Plattekloof to CBD in the morning and reverse in the evening.

I basically go down Bosmansdam to Koeberg, down to Otto du Plessis then get onto the cycle lanes.

Meet other commuters at Woodbridge Island.

I just think it would be safer to ride with someone.

my planned route exactly, from Edgemead. but am nervous about that Bosmansdam section (N7 offramp crossing onto Bosmansdam) - and haven't figured out the shower plan. when are you leaving in the AM?

I am leaving anytime between 6am and 7 am depending on who is waiting for me at Woodbridge.

Leave CBD just after 5pm.

That is the section where I think numbers will count. For that KM or so its full on awareness as cars, pedestrians and busses are drving like crazy. Never had an incident with a taxi yet in the year I have been riding it.

Bosmandam Ramp, cycling OnTOP of YELLOW LINE. As you Approuch the Join. CONTINUE AS WITH Traffic ONTOP Of White LINE. Cycling at Ave Speed, find the Gap in the LEFT LANE and Cross Over. NEVER SHOW Fear/ give way to Motorist.

sounds like a good statistic - I need to sort my gym membership out to be able to shower before work.

stupid question as I have never ridden into town: should I take my MTB or are road bike tires fairly safe on the cycle path (glass, thorns, or is it fine?, don't want to end up fixing tires every second day :-)

I woulds say use MTB at first. You can then decide for yourself as I dont have a road bike. Will definitely get you home quicker but some parts are corrugated or under construction.

I cycle that route. I stay close to the McD's on Plattekloof. Usually leave in the mornings at between 6h15 and 6h30. I'll probably not be riding this week, but will be riding against next week. Let me know if you want to meet up.

I generally feel safer on the MTB. If you need you can go off road and going through one or two pot holes or manholes is not a problem. Plus, I enjoy the bit of extra exercise.

cool, thanks for the advise - will do some research to try and find my way from Gardens to the actual cycle path and then get going soon!
