Where do I start?

Hi All

I am not only new to the forum but also new to the sport. Before I step on any toes, is there a place where I should introduce myself before posting? If not, here goes:

I have accepted a challenge from some mates to enter the W2W in November. Now, I need a bike, fitness, motivation and any tips that I can get. I guess the right place to start would be a bike? I am male, 1.86 m, weighs 98kg. Any suggestions of what I should be getting - please note that I want to spend as little as possible!

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and some futurelife, some 23GI, and smoke. Or don't, I forget which. And watch it when you hook a snarly.

Good luck. I am also doing it so might see you there. You can get a 29'r hardtail for cheap these days. Try Trail and Tar by Tokai. They are super helpful. Or Lance at Epic bike shop. They are both top bike shops and will help you spend your "little as possible"

TNT1: Any particular brand I should smoke?

Karma: I have no idea how much I should spend - impossible with 10K?

That would be my opinion. Think you can get one for about R7K now. What area do you live in?

You will need:

1. Bike - I have a bike that I got for free from Game when I bought a toaster. Not sure it is sufficient.

2. Helmet & Gloves - check

3. Bib - not even sure what this is..? Colourful shirt?

4. Water bottle - check

5. Pump & Maintenance Acc.- semi-check. Not sure what the maintenance entail..

6. Perseverance & the right attitude - check

Look for a decent second hand machine for around 6k,

1k for bibs,

R500 for helmet like bell solar

R350 for gloves, giro all the way

R500 for a camelback. 2L

R750 for shoes with cleats.

The other k for a decent multitool and a cheapish cycle comp.

And you should be good to go.

Sounds like you're good to go. The bib is for when you need to blow your nose. Use it like a permanently attached hanky.

It's called Scumerset Wets. There's a crazy cat lady from there.
