Entered my first one, 2012, only lasted until stage 6, immune system gave in on stage 5, but made cut-off with 9 minutes, longest, hardest day of my life !

Unfortunately I now have a beef with the Epic and a hangup for not finishing.

Epic will see me in 2013, come hell or high water.

Training: max 18 hour week.

Big mistake: only started training in Jan, when I got offered an entry !

Lesson learned: start trainingin August of preceeding year, train climbing until you throw up, because you will be climbing in the Epic - a lot !

You have achieved alot with only 2-3 months to prepare for such a big event.

Epic 2013 will be my first epic. already got an entry... but my partner dropped me already...so I'am in search of a partner at the moment... :( Already started training for it...

On the rainy day, I saw that Swiss dude on the tandem with his wife pick up the tandem and hurl it into the top a bush after getting stuck with chainsuck for about the 100th time. That was freakin' classic!

That's too funny. My partner said he had a squeak from the back brakes. We took his wheel off and he had no pads left. I asked him if his bike was still slowing down enough for him. He said yes. We looked at each other started laughing and got going again.

As long as you are mentally tough(and South Africans are IMO) finishing Epic is easy.I know a host of overweight, undertrained, underprepared people who finished Epic no problem.Easy peasy.

Have you done an Epic ?

I wouldn't call it easy, also these fat and lazy people you are referring to have the one thing most people don't have, that is a strong mind.

It's their "don't give up" attitude" that gets them through.

I have seen loads get there overweight and you only find out they are undertrained by day 3 and 4.

Epic impossible to finish, NO.

Epic easy-NO.
