About 3 months ago I noticed some imperfections on my Fox Talas fork. I scratched over it with my fingernail and the end result is shown in the pics below.

The good news is that after visiting Fox yesterday morning they've just sent me an email informing me that they'll be doing a warranty replacement of the lowers on the fork....9 months after the warranty expired!

I suppose the thing that dissapoints me is that a supposedly great company like Titus who sold me a frame at the same time that was part of a batch of frames that by their own very public admittance was a bad batch simply said....."Sorry, it's out of warranty". That's after the (now departed) company director personally told me "Send it in when it gets too bad or when it suits you"

As an example....a pic of the headtube after removing a sticker meant to prevent cablerub!

Let me be very clear....the Titus Motolite is the best bicycle I have ever ridden!

However, things have changed at Titus. When Chris Cocalis, the founder, left the company in '06, the throngs on MTBR bitched and moaned about it endlessly proclaiming it as the end of an era and questioning what would become of the company.

A couple years ago there was a post on MTBR of a rider who had broken his out of warrenty frame. He posted to tell everyone what Titus had done for him.

They told him that the frame he was riding was too small for him and he was riding it with too much seatpost extension(if I recall correctly 11 inches out as opposed to max allowed 9inches extension)

They then proceeded to offer to build him a custom aluminium frame(they normally only do custom in titanium) with the short toptube length he desired but incorporating the extra long and supported seattube he needed.....at no extra cost to him!

Now....just 2 or 3 years later they won't repaint a frame that everyone knows had a bad paintjob!

I corresponded with them via the bikeshop that supplied the frame and initially I was like "Cool....it is 18months after all"

Now having once again experienced exceptional service from Fox when they had NO obligation to do anything about it.....?

Well....let's just say Titus has lost some browny points. It is actually quite sad for me to be making this post because I've been preaching Titus passionately for over 4 years now.

Did you mean this pic....?

Welcome Minty.

Got that same frame cable scratch problem on my previous TRANCE and (just after 5 months) DRAGONS told me to take a hike.

I sold the trance.

Pops, die verf op my raam het afgekom toe ek die sticker afgetrek het....dit was nie die kabel nie!

Hey Mints,

That's sad man.  Cry  The Titus issue obviously.

But you obviously know what Mr Cocalis and co have been up to since leaving. His customer service obviously will still be the same, one assume, with the new venture.

That then the "next" bike, if and when it happens? Or wait for their 29er offering?   Wink

His new venture being Pivot.....very nice!

I am waiting to see what happens(and waiting for cash frankly)

Don't know what I want to do!

I don't think I am a one bike man anymore.

My next bike will most likely be a 29er but I'm not sure I could live with only 4 inches travel. So....have been lusting over a Ventana El Rey which can be converted from 4 to 5 inches and matched with a White Brothers 5 inch fork....Yes TitusTi, I know they're *** forks but noone else is making a 5inch 29er fork yet.

But then yesterday I was hammering up a climb on the Titus and thinking....5 inches travel is TOO MUCH! It bobs when I hammer out the saddle and is robbing me of power!

I don't think there's to many 1 bike people around.  LOL

How much travel do u want on a 29er? I thought the whole 29" wheels effort helps plenty in that department already? Or have i been reading to much crap on the 29er forums?   Confused

And yes, Pivot .... *droooool*

So is TitusTi trying to sell me a kakka fork then? He did mention in his opinion that they're kakka.   Clap

Nothing wrong with it.

But the frame "supposedly" designed for 80mm fork? Won't it effect the steering to much?

Asks me who knows nada about 29ers and the lot.

I just like the feeling of a plush bike(except when I'm hammering up a climb)

The big wheels do add to the comfort, but it's not going to make a hardtail feel like a 26FS bike....it's still a hardtail!

I'm with you Mints. But i mean, won't 4" travel on a 29er be enough? Give you the "feeling" that it's actually more?

Of moet ek in die hoekie gaan sit en liewer stil bly?  Ouch

And to think the SA Titus agent is going to change AGAINDead.Wonder if the new agent will cover frames bought from the old agents?Big%20smile

Titus, not TitusTi, is the Titus agent in SA.

So how many time can you use the name Titus in a sentance and it still makes sence.
