Cyclenatic Posted May 27, 2012 Share Will it be ok to ride with a smaller frame then recomended? mos of the time xco?
TheV Posted May 27, 2012 Share No, it's not OK! Correct frame size is non-negotiable for many different reasons. A too small frame used for XCO riding will f-up your neck, back, knee's, etc... really, dont even think about it...
Mads Posted May 27, 2012 Share I just bought a bike and although I asked for a Large, the owner recommended a Medium reason being that it is a 29ner. I did the 50miler on the bike , but from a bout 50 km my shoulders and arms were absolutely killing me. This I did not bother me on the two trail rides (20km each) . That bike is covered in mud and I sit with a bike that is too small for me. My first real bike ...........and it is too small. TheV Posted May 27, 2012 Share ok, what size doyou recomend... ime 182cm. leg=87 You need a Large... and then you can play with the stem/bars/post to get your position/fit dialed in. In more detailed you need a 19"-19.5" size, with a 600mm to 610mm top tube. Edited May 27, 2012 by TheV
Mads Posted May 27, 2012 Share And in my case. Will it help to buy a longer stem? As my top tube is only 55cm

TheV Posted May 27, 2012 Share You have very little to gain by buying a frame because it's a "great" deal but ends up too small for you... Just don't do it, please!

TheV Posted May 27, 2012 Share And in my case. Will it help to buy a longer stem? As my top tube is only 55cm s0rry Mads....in your case specifically, the extra 1-2cm you can gain by a stem won't help much, and most probably just make it worse because even if it's more comfortable or a better "fit", it will just end up ruining your bike's handling and effect your descent/technical sections. And if you take all of that into consideration then ride quality and better technical/rolling capability is what you got the 29er for in the first place? What bike do you have? GT Zaskar Elite 9ner Medium .........and not a Large I used to ride a 2006 Giant Yukon and at this stage I think it might be better for me. I really struggled Saturday. In all honesty not ONLY because of the bike size ......But it played a major roll Edited May 27, 2012 by Mads
