Regarding the pulling out to the side, Xzakt makes a model that "opens" this way. Can't think of the model name at the moment. Used a pretty standard "top loader" from their range. It, and my bottles, lasted longer than the Topeak mount. (But that can be put down to heavy-handedness on my part.)
