I have the opportunity to buy a secondhand Specialized stumpjumper FSR comp 2011 (26er). I am looking for a bike with which I can do some single track riding, but also XC races such as Karoo to Coast. Would this bike be suitable for this or is it more trail oriented?

If this is the one you are looking at I've seen it....it's in brilliant nic and the guy who owns it rides like a granny, that is if you can actually get him onto the bike at all. I know this because every time he brings his two year old to come and play with my two year old we bitch and moan about how little we get to ride compared to how much we used to, mostly because of aforementioned two year olds.

Great bike for playing, singletrack etc and if you're not going for a win more than light enough for K2C and a few other races.

I got a 2011 Stumpy FSR last year and love it to bits. I'm strictly a recreation rider, MTB is purely for fun - this does all I want of it and more. I'm sure the real experts would recommend something way more serious, but for an average rider like me it's a great machine.

I have the same bike, or one year older. I love it more than my Anthem x1 which got nic'd. I could not afford to replace the Anthem so I settled for this. I have never looked back. Yes it is 600g more, but that 600g is more bike. shocks, riding and fun. 16k is a good price. I did TransBaviaans, hell and back and several others rides. Man it is fun having to watch my teammates with there supper light bikes suffer just as much as me. It eats single tracks like a DH bike and rides like a XC. the 140mm travel is a dream.

I did several stage races, including Epic on my 140mm Stumpy and it was always a pleasure to ride. It is not the fastest over longer distances, but it certainly is always a jol!
