  1. I spend quite a bit of time talking to my balls on a bike... as I try to sack up to attempt something above my pay grade. This is the basis for improvement... A skills clinic will get you all the theory, but in the end you will be the only person who can actually man up and try it. This is something golfers never have to deal with.
  2. Nothing personal, but my point exactly.
  3. ...although my snor pulls lank chicks. Go figure...
  4. I'm from Pretoria. I'm not cool enough for the spruit. Apparently, they have a problem with people in vellies and two-tone shirts.
  5. Come ride here in Gauteng - you will be cured of your love of dirt roads ;-) Not to say that's all we got - but a dirt road without a view is horrible thing.
  6. I've done enough road riding to know that it has its moments - 90km/h descents at panorama tour can be botty clenching.... But the point is that riding around on dirt roads is - for me - rather pointless. Edited - grammar
  7. The skill level of many of 'elite' level riders at xcm events is embarrassing. I think organisers of these type of events should toughen the routes up to force those wanting to podium to improve their skill level. This will of course, never happen as the fear is that this will alienate all the ex-golfers who pay the bills. I am quite over dirt-roadie races. I am not the most proficient bike handler, but am looking forward to the prospect of more enduro type events. For pure mind- and leg-numbing riding there is always tar road...
  8. This must be close to ready by now? I just drove past the area and was reminded that opening day is imminent. I really hope it's good!
  9. Ja, in my understanding of the new consumer protection act , there is no longer such a thing as voetstoots. Personally, I have bought 2 second hand carbon bikes with no issues. The only thing worth mentioning is that warranties are not transferable from the original owner to the second buyer.
  10. About the only place it looks like he can attack... Edit - Nibali, that is.
  11. Actually, I work with 'Life's too short to ride **** bikes'.
  12. I have finished both bottles (mine and my wifes) and they were fine. That said, my standards are very low...
  13. One has to have A, B and C lines. It is not feasible for people to walk sections that they cannot ride. This will even further penalize the very same more skilled riders you wish to reward.
  14. He has a point, but 2 wrongs definitely don't make a right.
  15. I love that there are people dumb enough to do things like this. Not only do they show us what can be done, but every so often they show us what happens when things go wrong. Give that man a Bells!
  16. I just pretend my mother-in-law is in the bunch behind...
  17. I think there might have been a contentious reference to a previously disadvantaged confection that may raise some eyebrows.
  18. You old racing snake, you!
  19. Actually, the way I heard it goes - ride until you fall over, check what HR you got, and then add 5 bpm to get your max. It is highly unlikely that one would hit one's max, merely by pushing to your perceived limit during a trianing session. When racing, the adrenaline gives one the ability to push that little bit harder than in training.
  20. In 2012 I did tents, and this year I did guesthouses with someone to drive us to and from the race every day. Staying in guesthouses is MUCH better. You don't queue for anything and you rest properly. The travelling time was a minor inconvenience. In terms of losing out on the race village vibe - quite honestly, IMO, Epic doesn't have much of that anyway, compared to say Sani or CPT. If your budget allows, I would strongly suggest doing it this way. If you live in the WC, well then, bonus - just drive to and from the start every day.
