This will be my 4th! Got the alarm set for 00:00:00 on the 16th...

Will be a bit more dificult for the solo's now that we can only get to our cars on the 3rd checkpoint - 162km into the race!

I am not sure that I will be prepped enough. My mate is keen to do it. I have just started mountain biking (getting up to 40km events) and not sure if I am biting off more than I can chew.

Just keen to see what the vibe is and whether it's a cool race

I want to do it but Frig 190km without support eish...

it's a relay though - not so? So team mates (if you don't do solo obviously) do certain sections.

I want to do it solo...but hell...what if something big breaks and my spare is in my support vehicle...

Rad006 - it's not 190km, it's 161km. I checked on my profile from last year and double checked Google Earth.

What will make it a bit more dificult is that you have to pack your lights and food/drinks in the bacpack. I rode last year and got my camelback at checkpoint 1 and my lights at checkpoint 2. It will just take a bit more planning.

Joe-cogs - It's a blast! Until you find yourself alone in the middle of the desert at 2 o'clock at night...

I found the vibe very nice and the sense of accomplishment at the end is something else... If you don't want to do the whole thing solo, you and your mate can do the team thing but then you do "only" 200km, if that.

If you start training hard now and do a few marathon events, you should make it...

Ja, I'll see - Will probably do a 4 man team. Sounds fun though. Thanks for the advice!

Support vehicle? What's that? Hahaha - carry everything with you :)

Joe-cogs - If you do the 4 man thing, see if you can do stage 4 if you are not that strong. I've played around on Google Earth and can send you the file. For a first time, the four man team will be a better bet.

Pieterg - what time are you hoping for?

Rad006 - nothing should break! It's all nice wide provincial gravel roads and hard pack surfaces. I think the most technical sections on the route is where we go from tar to gravel! If your bike is well looked after and serviced before the time, it should not give any problems.

Ja... all this talk of "Support Vehicles" is a bit overwhelming. But then again, what's an adventure without being stuck in a desert with no help? :w00t:

dont worry, there is fair amount of traffic and "stuck" you will be not for long.

there are other hazards: cows do not reflect light and crashing into one is real posibility, falling asleep on the desert section happened to more than one.

the 170km without support is not major problem as at 35km you will only need water and at 100km few bars and some energy drinks will carry you. remember, there are food stations at the water points (if I read it correcly) for the solo riders and at the "half-stager" for all.
