Chris Willemse Jnr. en Garth Thomas will represent SA at the World Cup in Los Angeles. In 2006 they both were lapped twice in the Scratch Race at the Commonwealth Games. In 2007 they both were lapped in the Scracth Race at the B-Worlds.  They have not competed in the WP Track Champs in 2007.  I wonder what was the selection criteria. Can anyone give me insight on this one.

Hmmm...I would also like to know the answer to this age old selection dilemma.

Did they compete in the selection trials this weekend?

Why wont they send Rabie, Louter or anybody else??

Louter??? Has he recently acquired a built in turbo that I don't know about?

Well, according to some of these posts on the selection meet over the weekend, He won the points race, and was second with Rabie in the madison.

James Louter can go Pantani...make no mistake.

LOLLOL I don't question his pedigree.... I know James for a long time now, we went to school together in Durban, used to train together as far back as 1992, because I wasn't really interested in track I used to watch him race rather than compete against him. Having said all this, have also watched him racing recently and in my opinion is nowhere near as good as he could be or used to be...

Fair point Pantani. Look, James stayed with my family in the week prior to his Hour record attempt, and so we can say that we know him too. Back in '98 & '99 he was consistent, not the quickest by any means, but consistent.

I saw on Track Cycling SA that he has done alright over the years (8) that I have been out of track.

But, I do not know anything about his present form, or speed.

So why dont you get on the track Pantani?? I'll organise you a bike...

Still got those Zipps?!?!

Hahahahaha... I used to have a trial bike when I was in high school, kitted out with Profile Aero bars and Zipp deep section on the front and Zipp 3000 on the back, the white trispoke, James and I used to go down to the track and ride 4000m individual pursuit against each other all day in the holidays... I learned from a very young age how to savour the taste of defeat.... LOL

I went down to the track 4 months ago and was surprised at what a bad track rider I am... Just couldn't get used to the gear I was riding on the Lotto bikes... I do know that if I actually tried to be more consistent on the track my road riding would probably improve but I think I will leave that out... Embarrassed

Hammertoe,

The riders mentioned are all competent track riders. The criteria however has been clear for some time:

Unilateral selection, bias, favouritism, nepotism, inconsistency.....all of the above!

Some surprises on the way from the Sports Ministry!
