+1 (for the missus) I've tried but I'm clearly not a coach. I'm happy to pay for the services of someone to teach her. She is aiming to do the Sabie Lite. She has done a couple of 20km races but anything remotely technical and she jumps off the bike.

Let her come to one of my skillz courses. I have just started again and have a couple of groups with a number of Hubbers.

Find a group and ride with them. If you're in the S'burbs, pop into Trail & Tar. They seem to be organising quite a bit of stuff. As a novice I think it's a bit early to get a coach, go out and ride the bike as much as you can. If a section looks a bit hairy at first , get off and walk (but always keep the trail clear for riders who can handle it). Observe other riders where you can and ask questions. Get the feel for your bike, and if you've got cleats, get the feel for when the shoe clicks out and practice getting in and out of your cleats (preferably on a flat piece of road at first).

I'm a novice mountain biker and I'm looking for the contact details of a good coach in Cape Town, preferably in the Southern Suburbs. I just think that it may be good to have receive proper guidance while new to the sport.

What I'm looking for is someone to help me with a structured training programme for my fitness on a mountain bike as well as technical skills such as single track, trail riding, drops, descents etc.

The other option that I'm interested in is joining a club. Please let me know if anyone has derived benefit by joining a club and if so, please post some names of clubs.

I've also heard that spending as much time in the saddle is all that is needed and coaches and clubs may not be as important.

Please advise.

Any advice and opinions will be appreciated.

Cheers,

Thanks slick, great afternoon out. Will def be back for more!

Was great meeting you guys. I'm sorry I didn't pay more attention to you but you were a bit advanced for that group and the newbies needed more assistance.

Anybody have thoughts on mtbskills.co.za or the training from Tread?

Spoke to someone that attended Tread but they complained that the class was too big (16 people) and spent too much time waiting around. Give slick a shout.

I don't like more than 4 at a time. I just wouldn't be able to pay proper attention to each individual. I imagine there would be a lot of waiting at each obstacle?

I had jcza's partner and two others and had my hands full.
