Slow and unfit - JHB Training & skills development rides

Hi all

Im starting this group up again.

It will serve the following purpose:

  • Bring together new mountain bikers and introduce them to the sport.
  • Assist with skills development.
  • Assist with bike setup.
  • A basic bike maintenance course covering cleaning, lubricating and basic gear adjustments.
  • Help to develop fitness for new or unfit riders.
  • Build confidence or restore confidence on the bike post injury.
  • Short and fun group rides.
  • Max of 10 to 20km rides will be done depending on overall group fitness.

Once you find the group rides to be too slow or not technical enough you can move on to different groups.

The idea is to meet once a week in a small group of max 6 to 8 riders. Small groups are easier to assist.

Let me know if you are interested and we can do the first ride on the 15th or 16th.

Venues will be either MTN Park, Spruit of Rietvlei.

Planning on doing a basic intro course for new riders in the next few weeks.

Send me a PM with the following:

1. Your current skill level.

2. You resting heart rate if you know it.

3. Your age

4. Your current weight.

5. Your goal for riding.

6. The longest distance you have ever done.

The ride will happen on the Spruit from Fratelli's to Emmarentia and back. A total of 15km with a light climb and some excellent (easy) technical areas for practicing new skills.

1. Your current skill level.

30% of Greg Minnaar. I reckon I could take Gwin though as long as someone messed with his brakes.

2. You resting heart rate if you know it.

44bpm - it used to be much better than that though. More like 36 at peak fitness.

3. Your age.

41

4. Your current weight.

94kgs and fluctuating.

5. Your goal for riding.

To beat Gwin with him using Avid Elixirs with 140mm rotors.

6. The longest distance you have ever done.

187kms (on tar about 10 years ago though - does that count?)

Dear SIR,

30km's is a big distance for a slow and unfit person like myself. Any chance on going down to max 20km's?

Thanks

Its very flat where we are going and it will most likely only be about 25km at most.

Where we do the loop up Alberts some of the riders are welcome to wait and have a good rest before we head back to Emmarentia.

Nobody gets left behind so you have nothing to worry about.

Can I be number 7 please? :D

Maxxis, any chance that we do these rides in the afternoons instead of mornings...?

Might be an idea to not go further than Emmerentia. It is difficult to do skills when guys are tired.
