Never did it, but I heard that they had about 350 riders. Saw lots of boys with new and old bikes. I am sure it will grow from strength to strength...

where did the route go?

Hi,

A 6km route in the school grounds

The was XC with 4 laps for 24 km and 2 laps for 12km and last 6km.

The differnce here was that the route was not closed after the winners finsihed but kept open so that all could experience the fun in racing this format.

I wonder if the course is open to the public to ride or was this a once off for the race only? This could add some excitement to one's training rides. Even willing to pay a entry fee if they maintain the route.

Ride is once-off, but I'm sure you can ask the newly formed PBHS MTB Club when they plan to ride it again. Race was well organized, they maxed out entrants (350) but it was nowhere near crowded. Marshals good, sponsors good, food cheap and plentiful, only downer was no beer as it's a school :) Will definitely go again next year!

Mayby I will do that. Let this "oud Affie" go and show the "Boys High Laaities" how to ride their track :whistling:

There was talk of hosting the race af Affies but there were concerns about the number of "rock" gardens. Only kidding, Affies okes are great buggers - loads of respect!

Hennie,

CSA has approved the founding of South African Schools Cycling in all its disciplines, ie Road, Track, MTB, BMX and Paracycling.

I think that the task ahead will be to get all invollved and hence the PBHS has just started this,

You being from Affies, why not see if you can get the ball rolling there and have inter school races the same as the rugby that takes place yearly.

Pm me if you need more details

Cheers

Clive

Well I am talking under correction but I think that Affies already has a cycling club. But I will try to find out more.

I'm sure having more school clubs is a step in the right direction in identifying more talent.

But then again, if we identify more talent that will mean that I move down more on the overall results

Will PM you to find out more as soon as I get my facts straight.
