Weather at the Believe Project / Northern Farms race today

Been watching to see who would post a "race report" or something similar but not seeing anything yet.

Seems like the early morning rain caused a number of cyclists to stay in bed.

How was that rain and lightning just before we got going? I was near the back and saw at east six people heading for their cars from the start line.

I had a terrible week leading up to this event but was pleased that I went and enjoyed the 55km route. Those white painted poles on the one drop-off caused me to slip out (and over), but the rest was great.

This was my first Believe Project ride, and will definitely be back for more. Well organised and very enjoyable, not to mention the money going to charity.

Crazy weather. Out riding and saw race so decided to pop in and ride. My mate and I only had R50 each but they still let us ride. Nice people, well organized , definatly worth supporting

I am rather shocked the race took place . I was at the venue and noted bolts of lightning on either side with a dark black sky growing. I will ride day or night rain or shine and snow!! But lightnings a no no.

Could the race not been put off - there were a handful !!!!!! of riders. What about a week later or Monday.

I know this is for a very good cause, thats why my team of three entered, but with that aside there comes a time to draw the line. Imagine some one got taken out by a bolt of lightning - then next your we would be riding in his or hers memorie !

I must add there we a lot of people running for cover, it's not fun standing in the opean fields drench with not a tree in site and lightning all around. I am sure racers were running for cover I saw it with my eyes. Hopefully next year is arm and sunny.

With lightning all around, what would you possibly want to do with a tree?

The lightning was not close... A good count of 3-4 seconds between the lightning and the sound of it. I. Think that is why it went ahead.

The short distance was udderly awesome and I can't wait for next year. Hopefully next year will also be muddy. The friend I was riding with and I had such fun aiming for puddles.

Thanks to everyone involved in the stunning day... riders who came out to support despite the weather, marshals standing out in the rain to make sure no one took a wrong turn, the folk manning thewater table (with shooters), the bike wash guys who must have washed a record number of bikes, etc.

Well done Charlie and Marc for an moovelously awesome event :-D
