I recently purchased a 2008 Mongoose ECD. Stripped it, sorted a few issues and rebuilt it. While re-assembling the bike, I managed to strip the thread on the front axle (2008 Boxxer WC fork). I have it under good authority that it was originally a Maxle but the 6mm allen key bit has been removed and I used the 10mm allen key head to tighten it (The axle didn't come with the other bits inside)

What I would like to know is, what other options are available? Had a look at the threaded side and I'm not sure if that side is removable. Can you convert from a Maxle to a bolt through? If so what axles are compatible and how would you do that?

This is what mine looks like:

Is the thread stripped in the fork or just the axle? If its just the axle then get a new one. The 6 mm piece that's missing is what holds it all together, you won't get it tight enough without that piece. If the fork is stripped then you have other issues.

Just the axle is stripped (Thankfully...). It was apparently running like that for a while without the inside piece. When I took it apart, I used a 10mm allan key and it was fairly tight. However having had a look it the axle it obviously wasn't designed to work like that. Too few threads and too much leverage can only end in tears. Case in point here.....
