  2. The map is wrong. There is dh2, dh1, dh0 and another one above. The gravel roads are drawn in incorrectly

Even if I cant vote on anything. I understand the whole membership thing but I was caught a bit off guard when I saw that the meeting was for paid members only. If I had a spare 300 bucks I would join but payday is only next week

  10. I have resprayed several of my bikes over the years. Steel is the easiest to do as the paint adheres better than to ally. Strip back to bare metal with paint stripper and scrapers. This is the hardest part. Then wash it thoroughly otherwise bits of paint stripper left in cable guides etc will cause issues. Sand the whole frame smooth with water paper. Wipe down with acetone rag then primer. 1 spray can will do a hardtail frame. Let it dry for 24 hours then a can of colour. Then after 24 hours either gloss clear coat or more colour. That's the fun bit, masking up and doing designs/ patterns etc. But if you are just doing 1 colour then 1 can primer, 2 cans colour, 1 can clear coat and the paint stripper/ sand paper etc should cost 400 to 500 bucks. And remember, the quality of the finish totally depends on the care you put in to the prep work

  14. Any trail that can be ridden can be ridden on a hardtail if set up right. Wont be as fast or as comfortable but its possible
  15. 180mm on a hardtail is a lot to handle. I've run 170mm on mine before. The problem is braking causes the front to dive and steepens up the head angle. Also you can go flying into rough stuff cos you have control at the front, but your feet get absolutely hammered and fly off the pedals. When you land a drop of any kind the front compresses but the back stays up so it pitches you forward which is also awkward. So basically you have to really hang off the back of a bike like this, which makes cornering difficult cos all your weight is at the back. So the front slides around, and kind of negates having all that travel in the first place
  16. I've been tinkering with geometry and sizing for a while. My goal is a 29er with a 170 to 180 fork and 160 or more rear. Basically as close to DH as I can go but still able to climb without being impossibly awkward. But actually there is no one bike that can do it all. Enduro style riding, slog up climbs and race down is one thing, but if you want to ride more varied trails it's not so good. So really you can have a race bike or a fun bike. It's very hard to get one to do both
  17. So I came here to read all about nuschool slack geometry. Exactly 2 posts about it then 12 pages of tyre wars!! Gotta love the hub. Speaking of geometry, I just built the worlds longest slackest dh bike. 62 degree head angle, 550 reach,1370 wheelbase. As soon as I can get it up tokai I will let y'all know if it's super sick or super stupid. I'm hoping sick....
  18. I'm really tall so after 25 years of 26ers my first 29er was the first bike that fitted me properly. It's a double xl but still. Like a glove
  19. 26 can be fast. But 29ers are fastest. Why else would all the world cup dh guys be going to the big wheels? And as the geometry keeps getting better they are more fun to ride as well. Can actually smash corners properly now!
