Hi there guys I would like some advice if this can be done, as so far I have gotten different views if it can or cannot be done.

I currently have a Giant 2012 TCR-1 Road bike, which has the Shimano Pressfit BB. I have got hold of a set of Powercranks which use the standard BB. I have got the BB with the set of Powercranks.

So is it possible to use my Powercranks either with the Pressfit BB or to convert the PressFit BB to a standard BB so that I can then use my powercranks??

If anyone has done this or has advice to please let me know.

If it fits, it fits.

I'm not sure what you mean by standard BB however, I suspect it is a screw-in Hollowtech BB adapter with 24mm ID.

In this case, the crank doesn't care whether it is shoved into a pressfit or screw-in BB. Both are applicable.

If however you just feel like using the screw-in one cause you feel like it, the answer is you can't. Your frame can only take the (inferior) pressfit BB.

Hi there Johan,

Many thanks for getting back to me and it all makes sense.

I will take it to a local shop and see if as you say they can see if it fits which I hope it can.

This will not work, sorry to say it. The Giant BB is too wide to accomodate a standard British thread bb. You see with the pressfit BB the bearings for the shimano cranks, that would normally be an outboard screw in cup and bearing, is now pressed into the frame. To do this, Giant had to make the BB width bigger. A standard Threaded BB only fits into a 68mm BB width (If it was BB30, only an adapter would have been needed), but the Giant BB width is around 86mm to 90mm.

When you say standard BB on the Powercranks, do you mean external bearings or internal bearings with a splined axle?

The website I saw shows the older internal style.

Q: Do you make a model that can be applied to Campy or DuraAce bottom bracket assemblies?

A: PowerCranks fit Shimano V1 splined bottom brackets. As well as ISIS drive & Campagnolo Square

You cannot put external screw in type bearings onto a pressfit type frame (Giant, Trek, Scott ect). Apart from the width, the frame isnt threaded.

But in the end, the outside to outside measurement of the bearings (once installed) is the same.

Thats why I said, unless you have a bb30 frame, then you can use an asortment of adapters to fit it.

But you cannot with the type of pressfit BB Giant uses.
