Hi Guys

 

I am looking at upgrading to a 29er soft tail and the Scott 940 has been my choice all along until I saw the 950. Can anyone help me to decide whether the 940 warrants the extra R4000 over the 950?

 

I am upgrading from a Merida TFS100 (entry level 26 HT) so I am not sure if Ill even notice the deore cranks vs the SLX, but having said that I dont want to need to upgrade it at a later stage and then the upgrade ends up costing even more than the R4000 premium for the 940.

 

Please help.

I think the R4000 upgrade is worth it.

 

- The M596 brakes on the 940 are the same design as the highly rated current XTR/XT/SLX brakes

- The XT crank is a big upgrade and more hard wearing than the Deore one

- The 940 has the Nude 2 shock which should perform quite a bit better than the M3 on the 950

 

Choose the instant sinking feeling of spending a bit more over months of buyers remorse any day.

Dude you wont break the carbon - my Boss Rides a carbon Scott 29er hardtail and he is over 100 kgs..

To be honest R26k will be stretching my budget a tad too far. I can get the 940 for R22500, which is already at the limit of the budget hence me asking about the 950.

 

If the 940 is worth the extra R4000 then I don't mind saving a tad more and getting it.

I currently have the 950 and really enjoying it! I was leaning toward the 940 and tested both and decided on the 950. I plan to ride until something breaks then replace it bringing it up to a similar spec eventually maybe upgrading the brakes to SLX and Crank to XT. the shock difference was not very evident to me but i am pretty light. Between the 950 and 940 there is a 200g difference according to Scott.
