  1. Sorry not sure how to post it otherwise only video I could get see online.
  2. I think the TDF Femmes made her reconsider retirement.
  3. Dan Bigham had a crash as well. G Basson finished in 18th.
  4. Wahoo do have the pedals and GPS's to keep them going and with like most things cycling related a proportionate of cyclists always want the newest so sales should tick over.
  5. Hoping both are on the start line for RR.
  6. No Saffas on the start line for woman's TT.
  7. They normally ask you what is in the box or bike bag at check in, that probably counts as declaration?
  8. They probably do ask the regions to bid, in reality the region who has the funds to host or sponsors lined up will get it. To be able to have the required insurances in place the will have to demonstrate the required RAMS for the routes selected. I really can't see how you can prove rider safety without full road closures or rolling road closures.
  9. While watching the streaming of the ladies race yesterday I thought the same about the expansion joint and thought by myself how many riders will fall today because of wheels getting stuck. Ashleigh had a crash in a classic in EU a few years ago with a similar road detail.
  10. Brigitte has helped and managed Jean since he started his journey for Olympic qualification nearly 5 years ago. She is well qualified and deserved to be selected and has the experience to manage the team.
  11. I edited my original post above. UCI selection rules for Olympics are also at play.
  12. Cycling SA had a selection policy irrespective of national titles with a number of classed events set out that resulted in rankings. *edit Also the selection policy from the UCi called for the following -Hold a validUCIlicense issued by aNational Federationrecognised by the UCI. -Have at least 10 UCIpoints in the Individual UCI World Ranking of 27 October 2019*
  13. Nothing will happen to any individuals if claims are true. Lets hope CSA will get the leadership it needs, there are individuals who really try and do their best to support the athletes, this is not great for a Federation that is 9 months away from an Olympics. I truly hope whoever is appointed can take CSA to the level where it can be. Apparently Bellville Velodrome has been saved for another couple of years. This facility should be the base for CSA, follow the model that every other successful Cycling Federation has and make this HQ. Have gym facilities, physio’s, rider accommodation etc. Develop the talent and support them through the ranks.
  14. Yeah I agree with watching taxi's...unfortunately where you may think it is a safe shoulder they will utilise it in traffic.
  15. Today is soaking wet around England. Tomorrow is looking like mostly overcast...so normal UK day. Thursday/Friday forecast 40% chance of showers...roads will stay wet Sat overcast Sun will be on/off rain...finish should be dry. This is the Met Office forecast but they often get it wrong it is an island after all
  16. I just actually got back from a trip with a couple of friends from the UK for a quick cycle to Belgium. We left Sevenoaks early Saturday morning and cycled to Dover 102km, had breakfast, and then boarded the ferry for a two hour crossing to Dunkirk. Dunkirk to Brugge was up next and we got off the ferry at 3pm. Goal was to reach Brugge as early as possible and you can do this quite easily as it is mostly flat all the way. We hit a snag with about 30km to go when a friend snapped his hanger, we made the bike single speed but kept on having issues every now and then. With all the stops we arrived in Brugge at 7.30pm, booked into our accommodation, showered and went out for dinner taking in some of the sights of the beautiful town. The town square was so lively with a show on and loads of people sitting around and enjoying the summer weather. Dinner that night was great with a couple of Belgium beers and a fresh waffle to round it off. Next morning was an 8.30am start back to Dunkirk to catch the ferry home at 2pm. Challenging with our friend on a single speed but made it in good time. Lunch on the ferry and a train back from Dover home. Really beautiful cycling through the garden of England (Kent) on the way to Dover and then cycling along water canals all the way to Brugge passing through small towns. We will be doing a lot more of this over the next couple of years.
  17. Thanks travelling on Thursday. Racing is on Saturday and Sunday. I will post updates.
  18. Hi Hubbers, Been toying with the idea for quite a bit of time to approach The Hub with our journey and see if we can reach out to a business to get involved with our journey. So here goes might be a bit of a read but will be a good one. Towards the end of 2015 my wife took up track cycling, competed in her first Grand Prix at Hector Norris and performed well. Early in 2016 she did her first provincials and again performed well in all the events, bar sprinting . March of 2016 and she competed in her first SA's. IIRC she won gold in the 1500m, IP and Omnium (she actually hated the omnium ). So up to this point she was quite competitive on the road as well as winning a couple of races but the track was were she wanted to excel and get to the Olympics. We just knew we had to get to Europe to race on indoor tracks and against the worlds best and doing this out of South Africa is not affordable. I got blessed with the opportunity to come and work for an international consulting firm in London and without thinking twice we grabbed the opportunity and through a fully supportive friend the move was made possible. Throughout 2017 and up to the Commonwealth Games the focus was on endurance, although she already knew before the Commonwealth Games that she will be switching over to sprinting, testing during the Games also confirmed this. She has made enormous progress in a year and even more after joining a British based Sprinting club 8 months ago. So back to chasing qualification for Olympics, your ranking will be based on the following and what makes it a bit more difficult is that bigger nations have team sprint teams which then automatically qualify them for sprint and keirin spots: Best 3 World Cups for 1st season (2018/2019) Best 3 World Cups for 2nd season (2019/2020) 2019 and 2020 World Championships 2019 and 2020 Continental To qualify to be able to ride World Cups the following events count and cut off is September every year: Best 3 Class 1 races Best 3 Class 2 races National Champs World Champs Continental Champs We are now in the 2019/2020 season and the chase for points to qualify for the World Cups has started. Currently she ranked 27th in the Sprint and 26th in the Keirin, World Rankings. The Sprint and the Keirin are the two Olympic events, so that is the only focus now. Sometimes she will race the 500m TT if she has the opportunity, but it is not a focus and currently she is ranked 14th in the TT, but it is not an Olympic event. We have already planned and booked her races in order to qualify for this seasons World Cups. She is well on her way in preparing for them and her PB's in the gym and on the track at the recent club event without tapering is impressive. Why post this on The Hub? Well track cycling generally does not get the best exposure even around Europe. They only televise the major events which is great and really exciting. Currently she has one sponsor who gives us financial support during the year which goes a long way and gets her mostly to most races but she still has to work part-time to supplement this which is not ideal. She always travels and has to keep her travelling and time away short due to work which means she usually only arrives the day before the event which is not ideal. She only has a manger or help when I can travel with or her fellow Saffa chasing the same dream is attending the same event, which already makes a huge difference. We want to try and get her fully focused on training, racing and recovery over the next year and by posting this on here reaching out to Hubbers who own companies or work for companies whom may want to support an athlete developing and reaching the Olympics. Following Olympics 2020, Commonwealth 2022 is the next goal followed by Olympics 2024. We know she may not podium yet at the first Olympics however her times are coming down ahead of time so who knows . She has a backabuddy account which anybody who may want to donate could do so here https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/my-journey-to-tokyo-2020-olympic-games . Or https://www.gofundme.com/f/my-journey-to-olympic-games Long term goals would be to get more Saffas racing on the circuit and this is possible if you have a EU or UK base, which we will provide, and what would make a lot more affordable. Please send me a PM if you would like to discuss anything or know anything in more detail.
  19. Well bud do it then bud. Pretty sure you will also say the hour record is not that hard...all about gearing as well.
  20. Disappointing to get this far and not look for an alternative after all the prep, got to be somewhere in SA it is possible anyway his choice, f£&^%$% sad
  21. Easy way to stop this. If you do not trust the seller or buyer and the ratings are poor...copy eBay and let The Hub hold on to the funds until the buyer receives the product. Yes you will need to utilise a payment site like Paypal but why not for the peace of mind.
  22. https://www.iol.co.za/personal-finance/expats-must-act-to-avoid-consequences-of-new-tax-law-14783867 Professional in the UK easily earns of £50k a year and will get taxed 40% on income over £46k so will this mean loosely that SARS will want another 5% of the cut to make up 45% as it is stated in the article?
  23. RA is with Allan Gray, 31 years old, closed my bank account in SA wife still has hers, no for accountant & attorney. SARS has R16k due to me and not releasing this as my tax status has changed, they indicate that I have an estate registered against my profile which is as a result of the insolvency court order, I will need a new tax number and have not earned money in RSA for two years although SARS says I should file a return with my old tax number. So back to the RA, it is only R49k so not worth paying someone more than half of it just to get Allan Gray to release the funds. Reason why I want to FE is that in the near future our dear friends at SARS will be asking all SA citizens living abroad to pay tax on the difference they are currently paying tax in the country of residence and what they would have paid in SA. Yes it is more directed at Expats working in tax havens however I do not want to wait until no.99 and have to pay a premium to do the process. RA rules only allow 3 instances where you can access your money, earliest at age 55, emigration and part of this is FE or if the value is less than R7k. I am going back to SA in two weeks time for a week so I can re-open a basic account if someone knows of a way I can get the funds out of the RA without the FE process?
