This is a really fun race. Have done it twice. Giving it a miss this year as I am opting for Cradle Quest at Van Gaalens.

The first half of the race is flat and fast and the last half the exact opposite. Underestimated it a bit last year.

Did the 65km in 2011 as a 'chill ride' with a couple of friends. Took it easy, as we're normally half marathonners - tried this as a longer race and day outing. Couple of difficult climbs, but overall a nice race. Scenery was nice. Not a lot of people - 102 or 103 did the 65km, so overall a 'quiet' race without the crowds.

Holy crap, what a tough day out. Rained the whole way, some places the mud was knee deep, most places mud was at least an inch deep. 35 felt like 80km. Saw at least 20 punctures, couple of falls. Took some Gopro, will load later.

Mine probably looked like that after 5km's. Taking it to the shop over lunchtime to get serviced and sorted.

I'm sure after Rust de winter and Cradle Quest the bicycle shops will be smiling with all the replacement parts ordered and services required. I am pretty sure most people will not just stop at Brake Pads, but brake discs, casettes, chains, derailleurs, and bearings would require attention.

Should have packed up the bike and started drinking when they anounced a 30 minute delay in the start times. whistling.gif

Damage to my rear brakepads after the 65km ride on Saturday. Both front and back look simlar.

Rest of the bicycle doesn't look much better either. Lots has to be raplaced.

And I thought mine were bad, Half the break disk support also gone

Alone at Solomon's reckon he's got fourteen bikes in from RDW this morning, mine being last in line lol. I'm only doing brakes, as I'm doing Sabie in two weeks and it looks like two week's rain before then, so another expensive race.
