And HIIT is not the best way to start training now if you have not trained before now. The best thing to do is to alternate. NOT solely attempt HIIT or threshold efforts.

December you should be doing mostly long rides in low (60 - 75%) heart rate. Once a week hill ride or intervals in your threshold about 85% of your max heart rate. December should be your maximum volume and then gradually decrease volume(weekly hours) and increase intensity.
