Hi guys

Looking at getting myself a bike but dont want to break the bank because im just getting into it. The titan trail 2013 26er caught my eye mostly because of the price and height (as opposed to a 29er). Would appreciate some opinions on my choice of bike and possibly some other suggestions the 26er titan trail is priced at R5.8k (beat price) and the 29er at R6.75k. Any thoughts?

I bought the 2013 Titan 29Pro just over a week ago (coming from a 26" D/s) and I LOVE this bike - I would seriously consider spending the extra and getting the 29er if I were you. I've done just over 165Km in about a week's time and haven't missed the rear suspension once and that is mostly due to the larger wheels absorbing a lot of the terrain. Looking at the spec sheet, they are pretty much the same bike except for the wheels.

If you have even a bit more to spend, I'd look at the 29R Comp, just for the benefit of the air shock - I've seen one in person - stunning looking bike, the pictures in ciculation doesn't do it justice.

Much depend on the riding you'll end up doing. Haven't looked at the spec so can't comment on that, but I do have a couple of comments for you to consider.

  1. It may seem that a 29er is higher, but you sit no higher than on a 26er. All depends on BB height as your saddle height (distance from BB to top of saddle) will be the same on both. Your legs stay the same length after all. If you have a 26er and 29er next to each other and both have a BB height of say 350mm you will sit at the same height on both.
  2. Front end height on 26 vs 29 has too many influencing factors for it to be a serious consideration in a first bike.
  3. If you end up loving mtb'ing so much that you'd want to upgrade then the 29er will give you a better return on investment as it's all the rave at the moment. Like Yo-Yo's in Gr5!
  4. For the money mentioned also look at options from Merida, Momsen, Silverback and Giant.

Shot for the advice guys. I actually bought myself the 6er titan trail. Im 168cm +fairly light and when i got onto the 9er it felt very big and awkward so opted for the 6er. Happy with my frame so all components are subject to upgrade over time. got the bike for a good price to so all round I'm happy with my purchase. Must say though silver back was def best value for money interms of components was actually strongly considering the vida3 2013 but apparently it didnt have the components that was advertised.
