Have a look at the geo on the 96, I know of a lot of peeps who bought one and then sold it after a few rides, might not be as comfortable as you would think. the 99 is more plush form what I can gather

 

I was one of those. Went from an old 4" travel Trance to a 96 and it was like being on a hardtail.
