Fenix LD20. I use them for work, around the house, cycling, where ever, they fit nicely in my broeksak as well. I use 2 rechargable 2700mA NiMh batteries.

Surely you mean 500 lumens

No it has 9x Cree XML the China manufacturers claim 9000 to 11000 lumen. That is a load of B's. Standard it produces 3500 lumen because it only gets about 35w from the OEM driver. But we have a modified version where we have installed a high power driver. Total power used is 60w and if you ignore optical and thermal losses it produces 9x666 lumen. That is about 5997 lumen from the LED's. But to be honest if you take in to consideration that the LEDS are running hot and that the reflector is not perfect you should get more than 5000 Lumen.

Sorry the idea of this thread was not to market but if you want to read more go to

There is a problem with burning 60w of power and that is heat and runtime. You can't expect it to run much longer than a 1h and even if you did try the over temperature will kick in and dim the light. It takes about 10 to 15min to get to hot so it is not a major problem. The lowest mode will produce about 650 real lumen and run for 10h.

Just nice having a light that can kill a bug with out having to crush it.

Well I have Led Lenser (P7 and the headlight H7), Fenix, Jetbeam, Zebralight and quite a few budget lights from China. The fenix and Jetbeam lights are well constructed and offer good value for money. My first light was the LED lenser ones and at the time I thought they were amazing. They are ok now but fall way behind my other lights.

Favourite has to be Zebralight...nothing comes close IMHO when it comes to their User interface as well as the efficiency of their lights (I have two SC600's and a H600 headlight). Awesome little pieces of tech biggrin.png

Edit: Next I'm looking forward to one of these little monsters biggrin.png

Light Output

  • High
    • H1 2400Lm (temperature regulated output, typical runtime 2 hrs, runtime varies greatly with ambient temperature) or
    • H2 1100Lm (temperature regulated output, typical runtime 3 hrs, runtime varies greatly with ambient temperature) / 400Lm (11 hrs) / 4Hz Strobe

    [*]Medium

    • M1 260Lm (16 hrs) or
    • M2 75Lm (62 hrs) / 24Lm (8 days)

    [*]Low

    • L1 5.7Lm (26 days) or
    • L2 1.9Lm (11 weeks) / 0.43Lm (7 months) / 0.09Lm (1 year)

[*]Runtimes are tested using ZebraLight ZL631 batteries. Light output are ANSI out the front (OTF) values. All levels are current regulated.

None of them

Princeton Tec 40 Diving for diving and back up hand held caving, hiking and camping. Have 2 of them

Petzl Tikka XP on head for hiking and camping

Topeak Moonshine HID on helmet for caving

Pyro 2000 on MTB

Pyro 1000 on Road Bike or helmet for MTB

Yeah, Princeton Tec make great lights, very underrated here in SA. I have a few of their diving lights, Tec 40, Tec 400 and a Minni-wave I also have one of their headlights the Apex, first class lights and tough as nails.

I got a Maglight around here somewhere too, but I never use it, but I use my Tec all the time.

Gee, just goes to show. I did not even know about some mentioned so far.

Yeah, I think the general mass market for lights is brutal, the big retailers sell the mass brands for tuppence and discount them further on Sunday. Not a market for the faint of heart in my opinion!.

Even the specialty light market is pretty small, it probably still has some meat on the bone simply because the big brands and retailers are not really into niche markets yet, but then again, like you say, there's a number of brands all competing for a piece of a very small pie - tough business I think.!
