Was reading the 4x4 forum this morning and came across this story (29 Nov), pretty sad if you ask me that Parks board did not relocate the hippo (I realise they are dangerous animals but its still sad)

A young hippo bull was shot in the head at point blank range and killed in Murdersdrift on Wednesday morning, 28 November.

His sin? He had strayed onto a trout farm after getting out of the Aloe Ridge Game Reserve months ago.

Alex Richter, owner of Aloe Ridge, had, for months, been dropping off lucerne for the hippo at the trout farm where it had strayed and had arranged to fence it in and capture it once it had settled into a dam on the property.

“I had all my catching equipment in a shed on the trout farm and was ready to fence in a feeding area for the hippo so that I could enclose it, electrify the fence and bring the animal back.

"They were going to contact me. Instead I got a message yesterday morning that the hippo had been shot.

"It was shot at point blank range while in the water and it then ran out of the dam to die."

The neighbour who did the shooting had a permit issued by Nature Conservation to shoot the animal. Yesterday was the last day it was valid.

From the two articles posted on the link above, I have two questions:

  • Is the hippo the one that was at Northern Farm previously.
  • Is Ken 'THE' Ken from the Cradle that made threats against cyclists? (Indications are that is is him - middle of controversy AGIAN?
