Xmas/new year ride

Hi, we are ob holiday in benoni over xmas time and i was wondering if anyone cycles on the road in jhb? Are there safe routes etc?

Please let me know if there are any rides i can join...

Head south to Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, not too far from them mine dumps, very safe.

There's a few groups you can join, Tour de Frans ride most days from the shop and on weekends there is a group riding from El Ridge shopping center.

Either take Atlas north to the airport, there is a 6 km section with a wide shoulder, you can do a few laps of this, or head onto the R23 and head out to Pretoria. But I would do the last route with a buddy or 6 as it passes the out skirts of thembisa. (Although I've only had a proble with the blue light brigade on there and never anyone else)
