I have wanted a DJ bike for a while. I do a bit of XC and DH riding. I would like a DJ bike to get more comfortable on jumps.

I have had a quick look on gumtree

GT chucker for around R3500.

GT rucker for around R5000.

Mongoose fireball R1500, anyone recognise the bike in the pic, the price sounds a bit to low to me.

New I can get

Mongoose fireball for R5000

Commencal Absolut Max Max, R5500

Gt Chucker 1, Just under R5000.

I was wondering what peoples opinions are on DJ bikes, new or second hand? All my other bikes have been second hand and it has worked out well for me so I will probably go that route but I also know DJ bikes take quite a beating.

On a different not I live in Cape Town, not to far from the UCT DJ track. Are there any other places I can ride or is that about all there is in the Southern suburbs.

thanks in advance for the advice

Id say second hand, provided they've been ridden by someone who thought they we're going to DJ but never did --> Decent bike. Getting a bike that was properly jump might be looking for trouble, as most things will probably need replacing.

Diald bikes also have a sale at the moment (http://dialdbikes.co...mountain-bikes/)

My two preferences are a giant STP(had one) and a GT ruckus.

Edit: Those entry level bikes like chucker/fireball's 2nd hand price is around R1800-2500. You should be able to get a proper DJ bike for around R4500, eg. Cannondale chase, Giant STP ar something with a proper shock, cranks and rims

I also had contact with the seller for the fireball and he is insistent is a downhill bike!!!

Oh no... one of those! See it on Gumtree quite a lot. guys selling entry level jump bikes with the letters "DH" attached to the ad. *shake my head*

Does he perhaps work at Cajees? (they once tried to convince me that a 160mm Scott Ransom was a DH bike because it had 8" rotors... not 8" travel, haha)
