Can anyone tell me if there is a nice / ridable link to get me from Rondebosch along the Liesbeek cycle trail, down to the riverclub, (here the route ends) , then somehow linking up the the new Cape Town - Bloubergcycle path ?

I have a mountain bike so I don't mind the odd voetpath etc.

Down albert road and join cycle path at bridge that goes to N1. Sure somebody will be able to explain it a bit better.

But you will end up cycling on albert road which is not the best.

Like LetsRide said, Albert Road is your only real link from the River Club to the old Castle Brewery where you can link up with the Blouberg cycle path. If on a mtb, you can do quite a bit of sidewalk hopping though.

Rosebank, Rondebosch, Newlands and Claremont have quite a lot of urban riding that you can explore. Besides for the Liesbeek River trail, that you can follow on and off from the River Club to the bottom of Kirstenbosch, there is a verge to ride along Rhodes Drive, a cycle path along Newlands Road, one along the M3, subways, pedestrian bridges, the road up to Rhodes Memorial and the whole of the UCT campus with lovely elevation, lots of stairs and jumps and drops.

We string the above together at least once a year for a great urban ride with a cup of coffee and a muffin somewhere along the way.

Andre, the City has promised to make a cycle lane along Albrt Road. I assume it will just be painted lines, but it will be better than the way it is now. I have no idea of the timing though.

I find Albert Road quite easy early on a Saturday or a Sunday morning, with little trasffic and few parked cars. Coming back later in the morning it can be a bit crazy though. Then I hope for it to be extremely busy so that the traffic is at a near standstil, which make it a lot safer for riding. This is normally the case around 10 to 11 on a Saturday because of the Biscuit Mill market in Albert road drawing lots of visitors. So, go out early on a weekend, say before 6am and come back around 10am and you may find it easier than expected.

Safe riding
